Our Research and Development Scientists are transforming the industry. Interns will be assigned a challenging research project requiring creative thinking, problem solving, and teamwork. Objectives/Goals: Develop procedures for freeze-drying nanoaprticle solutions for bulk preparation and long-term storage. By the end of this summer, the intern will have identified optimal cryoprotectant conditions and thoroughly characterized the resulting nanoparticles Duties: The student will gain hands-on laboratory experience optimizing and refining freeze-dried nanoparticle formualtions.  Preparing freeze-dried nanoparticle formulations with various cryoprotectants Characterizing nanoparticle size, dispersity, and nucleic acid encapsulation efficiency Evaluating nucleic acid delivery in target cell types and describe relationships between formulation, nanoparticle properties, and transfection efficacy in vitro. Presenting data in a written report, oral lab meeting presentation, and summer intern poster session   Competitive wages   Position Requirements 1 to 3 years of undergraduate work toward a B.S. Engineering (Chemical, Biomedical, Biological), Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, or related Excitement and initiative to gain industry experience and learn new skills Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment to meet project milestones in a timely fashion Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to summarize development work, critical conclusions, and relevance to the bigger picture Ability to work in a laboratory environment and learn to use equipment with an emphasis on lab safety Effective user of Microsoft Office application suite Prior experience in biomedical or chemistry research, pipetting, and/or mamallian cell culture is a plus Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship, be able to work onsite in Gaithersburg, MD for the summer, at least 18 years of age, and enrolled in a full-time academic program pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree   Full-Time/Part-Time Seasonal   Location Gaithersburg, MD   This position is currently not accepting applications.
