Description

We are seeking a student enrolled in a masters or PhD program in Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacology, or any field related to this area, for our R&D Oncology summer internship program. Our Research and Development Scientists are transforming the industry! Objectives/goals of the position:

To develop a greater biological understanding of targeting family members of the Bcl-2 anti-apoptotic family for the treatment of cancer using antibody drug conjugates or nanomedicine platforms.

Primary duties:

To conduct experiments to determine how tumor-targeted therapies can be leveraged to inhibit the activity of Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, or Mcl-1 in a safe way for the treatment of hematological malignancies.  Skill sets that will be employed in this internship will include high throughput/automated cell killing and apoptosis assays as well as complex multi-color imaging of drug delivery and cell death.  The intern will generate data, keep a detailed and up-to-date notebook, and compile a written report on the project.  At the end of the internship, a presentation summarizing the background, hypotheses tested, methods used, results and conclusions of the research will be delivered to our oncology group.

Duration: 12 weeks

Position Requirements

• Cell culture, pipetting and assay set-up for high-throughput biological assays, imaging techniques, and flow cytometry may be required.
• Capability to conceive and execute original research projects.
• Laboratory experience utilizing sound scientific principles to provide innovative solutions to complex problems.
• Demonstrated leadership and initiative.
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• General computer proficiency including MS office skills
• Ability to relocate to Gaithersburg, MD for the summer

To participate in the AstraZeneca Intern Program students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
• Enrollment in a full-time academic program.
• At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
