For more information please visit www.astrazeneca.com .   Description Title: Machine Learning Undergraduate Intern Location: Gaithersburg, MD Duration: 12 weeks We are seeking an undergraduate student majoring in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Computer Science for a paid summer internship. Core Responsibilities: Compile experimental data on AZ product post-translational modifications (PTMs) under stress. Generate 3D models of these proteins in the absence of experimental structural data. Implement a machine-learning based approach to predict PTMs based on structural properties   Primary Duties: It is expected that ~90% of the effort involved in training a machine learning model is data curation.  Based on literature search, students will identify physical and chemical properties that may be important to deamidation.  As the predictive tool they are developing is likely to be most valuable during the early development process, when little experimental data is available, students will use homology modeling to predict the 3D structure of these proteins given only the primary amino acid sequence.  Variables that they deem important inputs for the model will be gathered by analysis of the predicted structures.    Position Requirements   Position Requirements: Fundamental understanding of protein biochemistry, protein structure, and machine learning techniques. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2+ Candidates must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.  Candidates must be fulltime students pursuing a bachelor's degree.
