Quest Transport LLC was established in 2005 as a hazardous material carrier specializing in fuel distribution. Quest currently services, the Mid-Atlantic area, namely Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. Quest delivers an annual fuel volume of over 600 million gallons. Position Summary:

The position of Director of Maintenance is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of two garage facilities, two satellite lease locations and six mechanics with a combination of ninety-six trucks and tankers. Duties include vetting, hiring and orienting of all new fleet mechanics, providing technical expertise, training and mechanical problem solving to employed mechanics, managing productivity and day to day operations of the garages. Other duties include updating and sharing knowledge and advisement to fleet on regulatory, standards and guidelines, and acting as a liaison between truck vendors and mechanics for maintenance related issues including warranty recovery and goodwill negotiations. The DOM is responsible to provide practical solutions for outside truck repairs. The position is responsible to mentor and coach mechanics and Terminal Managers on safety and technical issues, concurrently demonstrating control and expense reduction. In addition the DOM is responsible for creating and managing the annual maintenance budget for the fleet. The position also ensures Owner Operator DOT quality assurance, maintaining PMs and truck files using DOT standards and guidelines. The DOM is also responsible to collaborate with the General Manager on new equipment purchase specifications.

Key Position Responsibilities:

  • Monitor day to day garage operations ensuring mechanics and garage locations are operating safely following State, DOT and OSHA guidelines.
  • Monitor mechanics daily hours and complete biweekly payroll.
  • Review PM Inspections / intervals ensuring they meet both DOT and company standards.
  • Provide daily technical expertise and mechanical problem solving skills to fleet mechanics.
  • Monitor daily vendor repairs to ensure warranty is being utilized and goodwill policies are implemented when applicable.
  • Travel to each location on a weekly basis to review garage operations.
  • Recruiting of new mechanics, hiring, vetting, orientation and retention.
  • Complete annual performance reviews for all employed mechanics.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the annual maintenance budget for the fleet.
  • Monitor and review monthly maintenance P&Ls to ensure costs are accurate and on track with annual budget.
  • Develop cost effective controls to ensure optimum utilization of personal, materials and equipment.
  • Provide practical solutions for outside truck and trailer repairs.
  • Create annual new truck and trailer specifications providing lightweight options and new safety technology.
  • Track and maintain PM files of all owner operators ensuring they follow DOT and company PM guidelines.
  • Coach mechanics and Terminal Managers on safety and technical issues, concurrently demonstrating control and expense reduction.
  • Provide annual reports to upper management.

 
Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • Strong technical background with at least fifteen years of mechanical experience.
  • Minimum of five years management / supervisor experience.
  • ASE certification or technical / vocational school certification, along with a high school diploma.
  • Strong diagnostic skills / Tanker trailer experience a plus.
  • Ability to do hands on work if needed.
  • Effective communication and people management skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ability to create spreadsheet formulas, PowerPoint presentation and word docs.
  • Good analytical skills with ability to forecast annual maintenance budget
  • Ability to travel between terminals on a regular basis. May include overnight travel at times.
  • Respond to emergency calls 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Energetic and flexible.
  • Good driving record.

Location: Baltimore, MD

Compensation:

  • Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000
