For more information please visit www.astrazeneca.com .   Description Location: Gaithersburg, MD We are currently seeking juniors, or seniors working towards obtaining a Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related degree for an internship assignment during the summer of 2022. Core Responsibilities: Determine formulation conditions under which light-induced degradation of a promising class of therapeutic biologics can be abated. Study the impact of introducing well-known free-radical scavengers in impeding oxidation and investigate the mechanism therein. Gain experience planning and executing scientific studies, operating scientific instruments and troubleshooting analytical methods.   Primary Duties: Evaluate solution conditions and degradation pathways of novel therapeutics (may include antibody-drug conjugates, mRNA lipid nanoparticles and/or viruses) to understand the role and interaction of multiple anti-oxidants, novel excipients and common Drug Product parameters at influencing the degradation of the model molecule. Will plan and perform the relevant laboratory experiments with guidance from the supervisor, analyze data, present findings at departmental meetings and contribute to the planning of follow up studies.   Position Requirements Position Requirements: Hands-on laboratory experience working with peptides or proteins is preferred Experience with micropipetting General solution preparation based on basic chemistry principles Basic calculations of mass/volume/density/etc. preferred. Should be able to understand technical objectives and work towards goals productively  Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
