The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Facilities, the Carpenter will perform journey-level carpentry work in the construction, alteration, maintenance, installation, painting, and repair of articles and structures of wood, fiberboard, hardware, metal, and other related materials.

You Will:

  • Alter, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair structures related to floors, ceilings, roofs, stairways, doors, windows, modular cabinets, drywall, stucco, and painting (interior and exterior).
  • Finish carpentry components by using materials such as wood, fiberboard, gypsum board, tile, and metals.
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures.
  • Layout flooring, roofing, or drywall.
  • Clean up job site and return equipment and materials.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of power and hand tools; observe good safety practices on the job site.
  • Assist the Plumber, Electrician, Engineer, and HVAC Technician to trouble shoot and service other related building systems and equipment.
  • Assist with other services and installation tasks.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • A Carpenter certification preferred.
  • A California driver license with less than three DMV points.
  • 4+ years of experience in carpentry work on buildings and or successful completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program, one year of which must have been at the journey level.
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience is a plus.
  • BMS (Building Management System) experience is a plus.
  • Ability to safely work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to use a computerized work order tracking system and track materials used.
  • Ability to read blueprints and knowledgeable in construction methods.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, crawl, climb, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, balance, push, pull and safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions (e.g., dirty, noisy, etc.).
  • Ability to work safely at heights including the use of ladders, scaffolds, and other related equipment.

The expected base hourly wage for this role is $27.00. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
