Summary: The Lead Avionics Technician is appointed to act in a leadership capacity at the worksite. This individual is the primary point of contact between the Director of Maintenance, Chief Inspector and the junior avionics technicians and non-certificated helpers assigned to him/her. The Lead Avionics Technician is expected to mentor junior avionics technicians while overseeing and helping them with their work. The Lead Avionics Technician is expected to lead the way in inspection, troubleshooting and repairs to expedite the overall maintenance functions that maximize safety and efficiency.
The Lead Avionics Technician is expected to provide training to all BASI Repairmen at all maintenance locations of new procedures and any new equipment, anything Avionics related.

Essential Functions:

• Coordinate with the Director of Maintenance, Chief Inspector, or his/her designee for the scheduling and assignment of daily job tasks
• Personally take charge of the assigned task(s) and personnel assigned to him/her by scheduling, directing, and monitoring assigned worksite operations and site personnel that are assigned to him/her.
• Communicate with pilots and other maintenance staff to troubleshoot line maintenance issues.
• Ensure that productivity and work quality of site meets industry, regulatory standards.
• Ensure parts, materials and tools are handled properly.
• Ensure that all anticipated/needed parts and tools required to effect maintenance are made available to the hands of those on their crew in a timely manner.
• Ensure that when the assigned tasks are completed and/or at the end each workday, all parts and tools are put away and that the work area is left in a clean and organized state.
• Ensure timely submission (Daily) of required reports and documents generated by site personnel to Chief Records Officer (E.G., mechanic's time sheets).
• Ensure that the site assigned BASI owned/operated/possessed items (such as tools) are maintained properly (cleaned, lubricated, stowed etc.).
• Ensure required entries are made in the aircraft logbooks, other aircraft records and site records.
• Ensure compliance with quality and safety procedures/operations at the site level.
• Verbally report performance evaluations on employees as needed.
• Ensure company rules, regulations and policies are enforced and initiate actions to correct infractions.
• Advise the Director of Maintenance, Chief Inspector, or his/her designee promptly of unresolved or developing problem areas (E.G., safety, anticipated missing of deadlines, personnel issues, etc.).
• Ensure completion of weakly schedule updates for the avionics installs.
• Oversees junior avionics personnel. Performs and supervises line maintenance, component level bench maintenance and avionics equipment installation in support of Bemidji Aviation fleet operations and/or customer aircraft.
• Troubleshoots, repairs and services aircraft and engine electrical systems. Conducts diagnosis of malfunctions.
• Performs maintenance, disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, re-assembly, or adjustment of various aircraft systems in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, FAA regulation and BASI Maintenance Manual(s).
• Communicate effectively with all departments according to each department's needs and standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
 

 
Position Requirements

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Supervisory Responsibility: This is a limited supervisory position. The Lead Avionics Technician may assist the Director of Maintenance and Chief Inspector in interviewing, performance reviews, reporting performance issues, etc. of subordinate avionics team members.

Work Environment: This job operates approximately 80% of the time inside a climate-controlled building and approximately 20% of the time outside in all types of weather.

Physical Demands:  Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard equipment. Reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, bending, standing, climbing, crawling, and walking will be required. Clarity of vision at varying distances. Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. Must meet the physical requirements which qualify a person to perform essential job functions including the ability to lift at least 70 pounds.  All above items with or without accommodation.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position with an expectation of occasional evening and weekend hours as job duties demand and travel to all maintenance bases for the training of Repairmen.

Travel: Some travel will be expected with this position (E.G., off-site training, Maintenance personnel occasionally travel via ground transportation or by flying to remote locations to work on aircraft, etc.).

Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required - BS/BA preferred. Valid driver’s license. Previous experience in supervision/management is strongly preferred. Previous experience in Part 135 or Part 121 environment is strongly preferred. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office programs.  Must currently have [or have held] a valid Radio and instrument Repairman’s Certificate; candidate must present professional training /certificate documentation to Bemidji Aviation prior to the date of hire.  A valid A&P license is preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Must be able to obtain an airport SIDA badge at any of our maintenance facilities (be able to pass the fingerprint-based criminal history records check (CHRC) per 49CFR1542.209) and able to read a blueprint and electrical schematics, as required.
