Purpose of MeetPITTSBURGH

MeetPITTSBURGH, a division of VisitPITTSBURGH, is the premier entity to attract business events and meetings that drive economic growth in Western PennsylvaniaAllegheny County. The team connects event professional clients with local thought leaders, industry partners and legacy initiatives while also working with clients to promote and increase attendance at upcoming, scheduled events.

Purpose of Position

To promote and market the Greater Pittsburgh area as a convention and tradeshow site for state, regional, national and international organizations and associations. This position manages the solicitation, development, coordination, and implementation of sales strategies, with the goal of closing business. The solicitation of this business is targeted in specified geographic territories and/or for special interest groups. Examples of geographical territories are: Pennsylvania, New York, Chicago and the District of Columbia. Examples of vertical markets that are specifically targeted include: religious, labor, minority, and sports groups.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develops sales strategies and methods, researches potential sales prospects, and solicits state, regional, national, and international convention and tradeshow business for the Greater Pittsburgh area.
  • Plans and conducts sales calls to sell the Greater Pittsburgh area as a destination site for conventions and tradeshows and related activities.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates and executes familiarization tours and personally conducts site inspections for meeting planners to promote the Greater Pittsburgh area as a convention destination.
  • Identifies, contacts, and motivates local key individuals associated with state, regional, national, or international organizations in order to gain their support in influencing these organizations to hold future conventions and/or tradeshows in Pittsburgh.
  • Develops and delivers formal presentations to motivate decision makers to select the Greater Pittsburgh area as a meeting site.
  • Attends various state, regional, national and international industry meetings and tradeshows for the purpose of promoting the Greater Pittsburgh area as a meeting site.
  • Interacts with local attractions, hotel, and David L. Lawrence Convention Center personnel.

Position Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management, Business Management, or a related field, is preferred
  • Broad sales experience, five years minimum, particularly in the convention or hospitality industry, is required.
  • Outstanding time management, results oriented, organizational, and analytical skills are required.
  • Ability to research potential sales prospects and to effectively sell those prospects on conducting their meetings in the Greater Pittsburgh area.
