Senior Coordinator, Research 

Description

The Senior Coordinator, Research supports the daily activities of the Special Collections department at the Margaret Herrick Library relating to the use of archival manuscript collections by scholars and researchers.

Responsibilities:

  • Pull and refile archival materials for appointments, Library tours, special projects, and Academy and Library events.
  • Assist with preparing archival collection material for research use, including rehousing files and applying barcodes to requested boxes and folders.
  • Respond to inquiries about Special Collections holdings, in person, via email and on the phone, and assist in arranging appointments.
  • Work the Special Collections and Orientation desks, as needed.
  • Scan/photocopy archival material requested by researchers and assist in preparing reproduction requests for digital delivery.
  • Maintain records for Special Collections copy requests, as well as other records related to research in Special Collections.
  • Keep statistics for the Special Collections Department, such as files pulled, patron appointments, and requested collections.
  • Assume other general office duties such as answering the phone, photocopying, filing, and ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in film studies or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in film history and archival research.
  • Understanding of archival principles and an ability to carefully handle fragile documents.
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Working knowledge of Library software and databases preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong service orientation and professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, administrators, and patrons.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and staying organized.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a somewhat stressful environment.
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and projects.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairways, lift and move boxes up to 25 lbs., and use a ladder or stepstool.
