The Payroll Specialist will process semi-monthly payrolls for both exempt and non-exempt employees in a multi-state environment. The payroll includes as many as 500+ employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and processing of semi-monthly payroll for over 400 employees in 8 states; review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports including vacation and sick time
  • Process federal and state payroll tax deposits and returns
  • Process payment of employee benefits medical, dental, HSA, 401(k), etc.
  • Handle the administration of the electronic timekeeping system
  • Establish/maintain employee records; ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis; review changes for proper authorization
  • Address issues and questions regarding payroll from employees and superiors
  • Knowledge wage and hour law compliance
  • Review and assist in the distribution of W-2's
  • Prepare reports for upper management and finance department
  • Responsible for the coordination efforts between payroll, human resources, accounting and other departments to ensure proper flow/maintenance of employee data.
 
Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Degree in Accounting, Business or relevant field is a plus
  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ full cycle experience in payroll. Multi-state experience is a plus
  • Proven background in accounting –understanding of accounting fundamentals and demonstrated knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Proficient in MS Office and knowledge of relevant software and databases
  • Ability to handle confidential information in an appropriate manner
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with Quickbooks, Ascentis, or any other HRIS programs is a plus
