The Vice President Safety and Security is the equivalent position of the Director of Safety as required by 14 CFR § 119.65 (1), and is the equivalent position to the Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator as required by 49 CFR §1544.215(a).

  • Ensure that Safety and Security is performing in an efficient, productive manner.
  • Maintain the highest level of safety in the public interest during the conduct of all activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and conformity to all standards during the conduct of all activities.
  • Review recommendations for updates to the Safety Policy and Safety Objectives on an annual basis prior to approval by the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Ensure that the Accountable Executive annually reviews the safety policy.
  • Monitor and ensure that all operations are conducted in compliance with governmental regulations of the states in which operations are conducted, especially those relating to safety and security
  • Ensure the allocation of necessary resources to ensure the successful maintenance of the SMS.
  • Maintain a sound, trustworthy relationship with the FAA, TSA, and other government and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure the quality and content of the Safety Management Manual (SMM) and the Corporate Security Manual (CSM).
  • Conduct an annual review of the Safety Management Manual and Corporate Security Manual during each calendar year.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of program controls.
  • Ensure that the Safety Management System (SMS) is properly maintained in all areas of the Company.
  • Monitor and assure that all departments are in compliance with all governmental regulations, with an added emphasis on those relating to safety.
  • Represent the Company as the National Air Carrier Association Safety and Security Council member.
  • Provide affirmative Leadership by example and assuring that direct reports are held accountable for doing the same.
  • Ensure that personnel within the office of the Vice President Safety and Security maintain competence on the basis of conducted education and training and, if applicable, continue to satisfy technical competency requirements.
  • Monitor industry safety and security concerns which may have an impact on operations.
  • Maintain close liaison with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Maintain close liaison with domestic and international regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain close liaison with industry safety and security organizations and associations.
  • Develop, publish, train, drill, exercise and validate the Aviation Disaster Response Plan on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer.
Position Requirements


  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • Must hold a valid Passport
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be PC literate
  • Domestic and International travel is required
  • Must pass a 10-year Background check including a FAA required fingerprint-based criminal history records check



  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • 10+ years leadership experience
  • Trained in SMS (Safety Management System)





  • Ability to handle numerous activities at once and complete in a timely manner
  • Work with limited supervision and possess an impeccable attention to detail, excellent customer service and organizational skills required
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathering and analyzing information skillfully with significant detail
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and written instructions or other information
  • Ability to work as part of a cohesive team and provide leadership
  • Ability to make quick decisions which impact the department’s credibility, and services reacting in a positive manner during unexpected and/or serious situations
  • Ability to complete routine forms, use existing form letters and/or conduct routine oral communication
  • Must have ability to apply common sense in understanding and dealing with others while maintaining diplomatic and professional conduct at all times
  • Must be aware of, and able to recognize and respond to, a variety of situations to include: emergency, medical, and security-related
  • Ability to formulate complex and comprehensive materials such as detailed reports, work-related manuals, publications of limited scope or impact, etc., and/or
