Description

Position Description

The CPE is seeking a Senior Grant Writer who will be responsible for developing and managing the organization's grant writing and reporting to support contributed revenue initiatives. The Senior Grant Writer will create content for letters of intent (LOIs), proposals, grant reports, and other donor-focused communications. Your ability to guide grant messaging and tell CPE's story in words will enable you to communicate the impact that philanthropy can have on our mission and the benefits to donors.

Prior experience in nonprofit development, and specifically communicating through grants and reports, is required. If you have these skills, as well as a demonstrated interest and commitment to racial justice, we encourage you to apply. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Development will work closely with the Assistant Director of Development, and is fully remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing, collaborating, and writing grant proposals and letters of intent that inspire donors to action by effectively and successfully synthesizing CPE's case for support, mission, and program information.
  • Lead grant reporting process, writing, and delivery, including monitoring and aligning of programmatic progress towards negotiated milestones with key colleagues from programmatic verticals.
  • Draft meaningful impact reports and stewardship pieces that build trust and motivate donors to give at higher levels.
  • Ground writing in the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization.
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on funder requirements.
  • Serve as liaison with the Finance/Operations department to gather needed financials and supporting collateral.
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
  • Track and monitor the annual funding calendar.
  • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.
  • Research grant opportunities from non-government agencies.
  • Collaborate with Communications department to identify and hone compelling impact stories

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, creative writing or a related area (master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience writing grants.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce a variety of complex, compelling written pieces for diverse and wide-ranging audiences
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Sharp analytical skills and the ability to offer creative solutions
  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Ability to multitask, and demonstrate solid organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment required
  • Comfort with managing up and communicating ideas and recommendations clearly and convincingly
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
