Position Description:

  • The CPE is seeking a Senior Grant Writer responsible for developing and managing the organization’s grant writing and reporting to support contributed revenue initiatives. The Senior Grant Writer will create content for letters of intent (LOIs), proposals, grant reports, and other donor-focused communications. Your ability to guide grant messaging and tell CPE’s story in words will enable you to communicate philanthropy's impact on our mission and the benefits to donors.
  • Prior experience in nonprofit development, specifically communicating through grants and reports, is required. We encourage you to apply if you have these skills and a demonstrated interest and commitment to racial justice. 
  • This position reports directly to the Assistant Director, Foundation Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop grant proposals and letters of intent that inspire donors to action by effectively and successfully synthesizing CPE’s case for support, mission, and program information.
  • Lead the grant reporting process and writing. 
  • Draft meaningful impact reports and stewardship pieces that build trust and motivate foundation donors to give at higher levels.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Finance/Operations department to gather needed financials and to support collateral creation.
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
  • Research grant opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Communications department to identify and hone compelling impact stories

  Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, or a related area preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of grant writing experience required. 
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce a variety of complex, compelling written pieces for diverse and wide-ranging audiences
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Sharp analytical skills and the ability to offer creative solutions
  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate solid organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment required
  • Comfort with managing up and communicating ideas and recommendations clearly and convincingly
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
