Summer School Aide
Recreation Deparment
Reports to:
Summer School Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY
The Summer School Aide is responsible for assisting the summer school teacher and reinforcing the instruction taught to students.

MAJOR POSITION DUTIES

  1. Wear clean clothing in good repair, appropriate for the classroom or if outside, the current weather conditions.
  2. Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class time. Punch-in on smartphone app.
  3. Examine and evaluate the safety of the classroom/playfield, surrounding area and equipment.
  4. Assist the Teacher with set-up classroom/playfield as necessary for the day’s classes
  5. Communicate with students, parents and other staff in a professional manner.
  6. Assist the Teacher with communicating objectives for all learning activities.
  7. Under the supervision and direction of the Teacher, prepare educational activities and instructional materials that facilitate active learning of objectives.
  8. Assist Teacher with instructing and monitoring students in the use of all educational materials and equipment.
  9. Assist Teacher in monitoring student performance and progress.
  10. Provide appropriate feedback to students on performance and progress.
  11. Assist Teacher in managing student behavior, enforcing rules and procedures. Provide appropriate discipline as needed.
  12. Supervise children in the absence of the Teacher.
  13. Assist the Teacher in collecting attendance data and recording on the attendance form.
  14. Provide clerical assistance to the Teacher with record keeping, classroom decorating, etc.
  15. Assist Teacher with clean-up of the classroom/playfield at the completion of each day’s classes.
  16. Punch-out on smartphone app at the completion of the day’s classes.
  17. Report incidents and concerns to the Recreation Director in a timely manner.
  18. Attend all necessary program meetings
  19. Other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
(ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  1. Must be age 16 or older.
  2. Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  5. Ability to follow Kaukauna Recreation Department Time & Attendance procedures.
  6. A high School diploma and some college credits in education or related field are preferred.

ENVIONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  1. Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, bend, lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  3. Ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods of time.
  4. Ability to endure a variety of weather and temperature conditions for prolonged periods of time.
