About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Do you enjoy working with children, adolescents and their families? Are you interested in mental health and helping families find the supports and resources they need? Come work for Valley Community Services Board as a child case manager. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and at least one year experience working with children or adolescents in a clinical mental health setting.

The primary duties of this position include:

-Providing intensive case management services to SED/at risk children and adolescents

-Collaborating with the child/adolescent, family, and community providers to enhance the child/adolescent’s functioning in the home, school and community

- Working effectively in the community and home settings

-Helping child/adolescent and family navigate crises and link to emergency services as needed

Knowledge of

*Services, systems, and programs available in the community including primary health care, support services, eligibility criteria and intake processes, generic community resources, and mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse treatment programs

*The nature of serious mental illness and substance use disorders, including clinical and developmental issues

*Different types of assessments, including functional assessments, and their uses in service planning

*Treatment modalities and intervention techniques, such as behavior management, independent living skills training, supportive counseling, family education, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and service coordination

*Service planning process and major components of a service plan

*Principles, practices, and methods of mental health counseling and case management.Knowledge of crisis intervention and emergency techniques.Adherence to basic ethics vital to the helping relationship.

Skills:

*Identifying and documenting an individual’s needs for resources, services, and other supports

*Using information from assessments, evaluations, observation, and interviews to develop Individual Service Plans

*Identifying services and resources within the community and establishing service systems to meet the individual’s needs and documenting how resources, services, and natural supports, such as family, can be utilized to achieve an individual’s personal habilitative, rehabilitative, and life goals

*Coordinating the provision of services by public and private providers

Ability:

*To work with team members, maintaining effective inter and intra-agency working relationships

*To work independently, performing position duties under general supervision

*To engage and sustain ongoing relationships with individuals receiving services

*To engage in specialized training programs in providing therapeutic behavioral interventions to children with serious emotional disturbances.

*To communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.  

*To exercise good judgment and creativity.

 

 

 
Position Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field with at least one year of clinical experience with children and adolescents, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience that demonstrates that the candidate possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
