Upper School History Instructor

Franklin Road Academy seeks a full-time social studies teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The position will focus on world history at the honors level and other social studies courses, such as economics, government, and human geography - depending on the candidate's level of expertise. Candidates should have experience teaching world history with the capability of teaching other courses within the department. Candidates should desire to be a part of a collaborative history faculty that resonates with FRA's mission to develop leaders of integrity in an inclusive Christian community. This department will meet regularly to share best practices and ensure a collegial atmosphere of growth and development. Candidates for this position should have a passion for history and the social sciences and have a desire to grow as instructors and mentors of students. Community life is a huge part of FRA, as teachers regularly attend games, recitals, and other campus events outside the classroom. All teachers at FRA are advisors of groups of 8-10 students that meet 3-4 times per week, and teachers are encouraged to lead clubs, coach teams, and integrate themselves in the school community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum to meet the needs of the class through the creation of assessments of various types
  • Serve as advisor for a group of 8-10 students
  • Meet regularly with their department to ensure streamlined curricula, expectations, and best-practice pedagogy
  • Performs general teaching tasks such as tracking attendance, assigning homework, grading assignments, giving feedback, and communicating effectively with students at all skill levels
  • Maintains regularly scheduled office hours and other faculty responsibilities
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in subject area or related field
  • Experience in teaching upper school students
  • Experience with current software, current hardware, and computer applications
  • Demonstrates a passion for and expertise in the teaching
  • Eagerness to research and learn new technologies and bring them into the classroom
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Collaborative personality
