POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION

The Level 4 Systems, storage, and virtualization engineering position requires proven enterprise level experience in large-scale, multi-data center, multi-platform, distributed computing environments. The technology stack includes Windows, Unix, virtualization, multiple storage SANs and multiple cloud technologies. Provide third-level escalation support for incident management across the enterprise, including 7x24x365 systems availability and optimization studies, incident management and systems performance reviews in support of all standard enterprise systems platforms and technologies. This position is strategic in designing, documenting, leading projects and automating the daily mundane tasks to focus on delivering the larger initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and document processes and procedure to ensure the compute and storage environment is deployed in line with best practices
  • Coordinates development of technical content and conducts system design reviews
  • Defines criteria and standards for system modeling and system/subsystem integration
  • Collaborate across teams and vendors to meet project goals. This includes working with developers, IT staff, business users and 3rd party vendors
  • Promote shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs and system footprint, leverage cloud products and existing services
  • Implement and manage automation tools to scale teams' abilities limiting future headcount growth
  • Troubleshoot, remediate, and perform root cause analysis on systems ranging from compute, storage, Active Directory, Windows, Linux, and other related technologies
  • Share knowledge and skills with team members and tier 1 support
  • Establish subcontractor statements of work, manages and monitors quality and performance
  • Manage risks associated with information and IT assets by developing and documenting appropriate standards, practices, and security policies
  • Ensure that all architectural products and products with architectural input are maintained in the most current state and never allowed to become obsolete
  • Select new technologies while observing the various constraints such as cost, time frame and security
  • Inform and advise management on the technological and organizational impacts of the new systems and operational components
  • Draw up a development and integration plans
  • Build test environments, and pilot deployment
  • Source materials and negotiate with vendors for best pricing on a per project and overall basis
  • Provide On-Call support and systems patching on a scheduled rotation

  • Problem solving, with the ability to mentor and work with other team members to resolve issues then focus on establishing long term solutions rather than quick fixes
  • Ability to provide systems capacity and performance review and assurance to capacity management for accurate metrics reporting and Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of the business for which the systems architecture is being developed
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills - servant leadership, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills
  • Clear understanding of IT Incident and Change Management methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Excellent documentation skills (Policies, Processes, Procedures)
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand
  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering
  • Basic project and program management planning and organizational skills, as well as time management and prioritization capabilities
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and show discretion
  • Collaborative with a focus on Team participation and consensus building
  • Stress management and ability to handle a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Strong understanding of Cloud products and applications
  • Strong Automation experience
  • Strong scripting experience in multiple languages (PHP, Perl, Bash, Shell, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Load Balancing, Server Clustering
  • Strong understanding of patching and packaging solutions
  • Knowledge of ETL tools
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus
  • Knowledge of Oracle is a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Knowledge of Network Engineering is a plus

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree in computers or information systems or equivalent education or relevant work experience in the industry is required. Certifications are a plus.
  • 10+ Years of multiple OS experience (Windows, Centos, Red Hat, Linux), virtualization technologies (VMware preferred), storage and fiber channel switches
  • 3+ years of backup technology experience (Rubrik preferred), Azure Administration/Design and Office 365 services (Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, etc.)
  • Data Center/Colocation experience is a plus
 
Position Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal, whiteboards, printed documents, and blueprints.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Able to climb a ladder and work on a raised platform.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • This position is expected to be remote with occasional need to be on-site in a shared workspace.
  • Extensive daily usage of workstation or computer; construction sites; confined locations with IT equipment

  • Up to 25% travel
  • Must possess a current, valid state issued driver’s license
