Historical Interpreter 


Mystic Seaport Museum is seeking Museum Interpreters. Seasonal historical interpreters will share the stories of the American maritime experience with museum audiences of all ages through demonstrations, presentations, storytelling, performance, and conversation. This position requires a minimum of one, regularly scheduled weekend day, plus other assignments as needed. Seasonal interpreters will work in a variety of exhibits, including, but not limited to, historic trades and facilitated family learning spaces. This position may include some evening work and help with events, as needed. 

Position Requirements
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and booster by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age
  • Willingness to work at least one weekend day and on holidays
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Sufficient eyesight, hearing, voice projection, stamina, and strength to withstand the rigors of the assignments
  • Individuals with public speaking experience, strong customer service skills, music performance ability (both vocal and instrumental), theatrical background, maritime knowledge, seamanship skills, and/or 19th-century trade skills are encouraged to apply

The Museum's grounds cover 19 acres on the Mystic River in Mystic, CT and include a recreated New England coastal village, a working shipyard, formal exhibit halls, and state-of-the-art artifact storage facilities. The Museum is home to more than 500 historic watercraft, including four National Historic Landmark vessels, most notably the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan, America's oldest commercial ship still in existence.
