Description

OVERVIEW

This is a two-year fellowship devoted to developing and implementing a national program that encourages, supports, and equips local church members in taking public actions in their congressional districts with the ultimate aim of passing climate legislation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in meetings/projects with staff and volunteers dedicated to placing pressure on members of Congress.
  • Work with others in developing action tool kits and other potential resources such as Bible studies and Earth Sunday materials dedicated to encouraging and equipping congregations to take action.
  • Join in collaborative strategizing about who to target for advocacy and how to target them.
  • Assist in outreach to churches and regional conferences in seeking partners willing to take public action.
  • Through the UCC’s environmental justice newsletter and website, educate members on advocacy issues such the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge and current climate legislation.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable education and experience;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple and complex projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Respect for collaborative decision-making and community planning;
  • Self-motivation, dependability, flexibility, creativity, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with persons from diverse backgrounds;
  • Interest in faith-based climate justice policy advocacy
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, once deemed safe to do so

Additional Information:

This fellowship can be done from a remote location in the United States or the National Setting offices of the United Church of Christ in Cleveland, Ohio, depending upon COVID safety protocols.
