SUMMARY

Manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of buildings and surrounding grounds. Employees in these job classifications are under immediate supervision and perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength (able to lift 25lbs). Typical duties may include some or all of the following: policing, trash removal, dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, polishing furniture and simple operation of basic mechanical cleaning equipment. Ensure that the entire area is cleaned to contract specifications with final outcome of a clean contracted area that will pass Contractor inspection. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to perform all duties to ensure assigned area is cleaned to specifications which may including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, mopping and use of equipment to clean carpets.
  • Ability to work with staff and adults with disabilities to ensure they have an opportunity to:
  • Have knowledge of use and proper mixing of the chemicals used for cleaning of contract.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Janitorial Supervisors.
  • Become contributing members to their community by having an option of working in settings which are both socially and physically integrated.
  • Exercise their rights and be free from abuse and neglect. Including discriminatory practices.
  • Notify supervisor of any problems.
  • Perform duties assigned by the Training Manager and Janitorial Supervisor.

The  proceeding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classifications. Management reserves the right to modify, change or rescind work assignments and to make reasonable accommodations as needed to perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

TRAINING

Comprehensive training is provided to all employees. Job assignments are made according to entry skills and/or successful completion of various elements of the training program. Entry-level job assignments will normally be within the category of routine work. Training will consist of the following:

  • Introduction of Orientation
  • Policy & Procedures
  • Dust mop, sweep, wet mop, spray-buff floors
  • May require some use and training of power equipment
  • Vacuum rugs and carpets
  • Scrub and clean restroom fixtures and keep restrooms supplied with towels, soap and other items.
  • Dust and clean walls, door, windows, woodwork and other above floors surfaces.
  • Dust, clean and polish furniture
  • Clean elevators and stairwells
  • Police around outside buildings and public areas
  • Keep simple records and make simple reports
  • Replace accessible light bulbs

 

 

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One (1) year experience in custodial work required  (Additional experience required for designated contracts.)  High school diploma and prior experience with developmentally disabled individuals desirable. 

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to stand 80% of the work time and sit 20%.
  • Lift and carry at least twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs, clean low and high areas.
  • Ability of seeing and having depth perception is required
