Senior Manager, Digital Management Services 

Description

Digital Management Services (DMS) is part of the Academy’s Information Technology division responsible for oversight and support of an integrated platform of software services to manage the Academy’s collections catalogs, digital assets, and digital preservation workflows. The DMS platform (principally comprising Axiell Collections and Open Text Media Management) provides a central access point to all physical and digital collections for internal staff and the public. The department is also responsible for data governance, data integrity and providing an organizational structure for decision making and balancing requirements of different Academy stakeholders.

 

There are1.7 petabytes of assets in preservation storage including moving image assets of the Film Archive, Academy Awards shows, Academy programs and events, and Oral Histories as well as digitized images of photographs, posters and manuscript collections of the Library, and Museum object photography. The collections catalogs of the Film Archive, Margaret Herrick Library, and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures are central to the DMS platform and total three million records to date.

 

Reporting to the Director, Digital Management Services, the Senior Manager has primary responsibility for the project management and business analysis necessary to assess, develop, and implement user interface design, features, and functionality in Axiell Collections. You will work collaboratively with the DMS team to design and manage workflows for digitization and digital asset management, and to establish, maintain, and enforce policies and standards for metadata governance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage ongoing requirements gathering/business analysis for development of new features and functions in DMS systems, assess end-user feedback, translate user needs into technical requirements, produce functional requirements documents such as process flows, screen mock-ups, etc.
  • Understand project scope, project goals, product functionality, and desired features.
  • Project management of system testing for functionality and user acceptance.
  • Administration of the system including training, user accounts, permissions, reporting, and configuration.
  • System configuration of Axiell Collections catalog using Axiell Designer application and development toolkit (training will be provided).
  • Configure Academy Collections online resource using Axiell Internet Services web publication tool.
  • Manage communications to users regarding scheduling for system enhancements and upgrades, and notices describing new system features
  • Collaborate with technical staff in Information Technology, vendor professional technical services, and system integrators.
  • Supervise one direct report, providing guidance, training, and feedback to team members as needed.
  • Stay current on developing technologies and recommend responses to such developments.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years relevant technical experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in database design and management, and digital asset management technology.
  • Project management experience including demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, plan and manage complex projects, design workflows, work with IT and technical consultants to implement new or improved solutions, and manage user relations and services. Experience using Jira, Confluence, and/or Airtable is a plus.
  • Business analysis experience including excellent prioritization skills, the ability to understand stakeholders and their needs based on evidence, work under pressure to meet user and business needs, manage expectations, and handle competing priorities.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical staff and comfort in making public presentations.
  • Experience working in or with culture heritage or academic institutions including working knowledge of standards and practices of museums, archives, and/or libraries strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital preservation principles, digital formats and concepts related to digital use, and migration and reformatting with emphasis on image and time-based media formats a plus.
  • Strong technical skills including an understanding of CSS and HTML, Web dev experience, and SQL server experience a plus.
