UGM Lead Camp Cook

June 20- August 19, 2022

Temporary Full Time Position

Overview:

This position entails living on site at UGM camp for 9 weeks with weekends off. All lodging, food, training and equipment are provided free of charge for the full 9 weeks. UGM camp serves nearly 500 youth ages 8-12 from our areas poorest neighborhoods and shelters by providing a free 5 day camp for at risk, low income youth. For each week of camp, the camp cook provides 12 meals over the course of 5 days for approximately 120 people per meal. Includes menu planning, food ordering, kitchen and volunteer oversight. Cook participates in meetings, chapels and bible studies throughout the week.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates summer menu
  • Orders, stocks and rotates food weekly in partnership with UGM food services dept.
  • Ensure all kitchen guidelines and safety measures are met in compliance with UGM and WA state guidelines
  • Supervises all kitchen activities, meals, and kitchen volunteers
  • Prepares and serves all meals in accordance with weekly schedule and menu
  • Supervises assistant cook

Hours: Monday - Friday Weekends off Approx. 40+ per week

Compensation: $500 per week / paid bi weekly

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion to work with children and youth
  • Desire to work with at risk, low income populations
  • Positive, focused and friendly
  • Experience in professional kitchens, food ordering and cooking for large groups
  • Able to articulate a growing faith in Jesus Christ
  • Adhere to UGM’s drug and tobacco-free policies
  • Union Gospel Mission is a privately funded 501 (c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and Statement of Purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Be able and willing to share the Gospel and participate in all of the ministry activities of Union Gospel Mission;
  • Subscribe to Union Gospel Mission Statement of Faith and Qualifications for Employment upon hire and continuously while employed;
  • Adhere to Union Gospel Mission Employee Handbook.
