Title

The Black List Intern - Summer 2022 (Gold Rising)

Description

This internship is with The Black List and is part of the Gold Rising Program, an 8-week
internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive
two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and
mentorship opportunities with Academy members.

The Black List is a technology startup and a film and television production company whose
mission is to identify and celebrate great screenwriting and the people who do it, wherever they
may be. We do so via our annual list of the industry's most liked unproduced screenplays, our
technology platform offering writers and industry professionals a marketplace for great material,
our diversity lists, our screenwriters labs, and our film and television productions.

We are a small team that punches far above our weight, and we are looking for interns with a
clear passion for film, television, and technology to join us in doing the same.
Ideal interns are likely the sort of people who have strong opinions on some, if not all, of the
following: the Oscars, Movie posters, book and album covers, fine art, architecture, fashion
(haute couture, street, and where the two meet), the aesthetics of television ads, film and
television company logos, Twitter Spaces, and whether RottenTomatoes or Metacritic is more
useful. More importantly, they're the sort of people who can communicate those strong opinions
effectively with people who disagree without being disagreeable.

While most interns will be generalists - working on a wide variety of projects related to Black List
business - prospective interns with a specific interest in, and aptitude for, graphic design and/or
video work may have the opportunity to specialize if they so desire. The Summer 2022
internship will take place virtually due to Covid.

Responsibilities:

  • Office tasks that support continued business operations
  • Note taking during meetings
  • Regular script reading and coverage (unrelated to the paid service we provide via the
  • Black List website.)
  • Assisting in design and assessment of social media assets
  • Creating and maintaining project and company related lists and logs
  • Research projects

Position Requirements

  • Applicants should submit a resume and a cover letter, the latter of which should include a one-paragraph answer to one (and only one) of the following questions:
    • What's your favorite movie released in the year you were born and why?
    • Defend a movie with a RottenTomatoes score below 15.
    • What's your favorite movie-related social media account and why?
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university on pace to graduate in 2022 or 2023.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • A positive attitude, self-motivation, and willingness to take feedback.
  • Strong personal computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets, online search)
  • Fluency with graphic design and video creation tools (Photoshop, Indesign, etc.) not at all required, but undeniably welcome.
  • Familiarity with social media and digital platforms.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
