Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT)

and/or Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP)

OVERVIEW:

Our mission at Klallam Counseling Services is to provide behavioral health treatment services to native and non-native individuals and their family members by providing them with the structure to make the lifestyle choices and changes that will give them a sense of freedom and an overall improved quality of life.

This is an exciting opportunity to experience providing high quality substance use disorder treatment services to both youth and adults clients. The SUDPT will receive training to provide a range of services under the direction of a Substance Use Disorder Professional Supervisor.

The ideal candidate must be a team player open working in a collaborative environment and committed to the vision, values and mission of Klallam Counseling Services.

LOCATION: Klallam Counseling Services

SUPERVISED BY: Treatment Program Manager and/or Lead Counselor

POSITION STATUS: Regular full-time non-exempt. This position includes medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, annual/sick leave benefits, paid holidays and payment of professional licenses and training expenses related to the position.

SALARY LEVEL:

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary depending on program needs/community events. Must have the ability to work evenings and occasional weekends based on program needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Complete substance use disorder assessments using ASAM and DSM-V criteria and make appropriate treatment recommendations and referrals.
  • Develop an individualized treatment plan following ASAM Patient Placement Criteria.
  • Complete Intakes to include group and counselor assignment and orientation of the facility and program guidelines.
  • Facilitate a variety of different treatment groups using the curriculum for that group.
  • Follow patient confidentiality as outlined in 42 CFR and all other relevant State and Federal laws.
  • Work effectively with all treatment team members in planning and developing instructional strategies and programs appropriate to the total needs of the clients.
  • Identify and facilitate referral of clients to professional consultation as appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings and provide clinical input.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with addiction, withdrawal, and treatment resources for recovery, including 12-step philosophy and programs.
  • Reliable work attendance and ability to work evenings or weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable independent clinical judgment and initiative in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and set a positive example of behaviors for clients.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with clients, coworkers, and community representatives.
  • Ability to work with diverse ethnic populations and a variety of people with different backgrounds and challenges.
  • Must have the ability to work with both youth and adult clients.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Office, and Outlook and able to function in a computer environment.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication.
  • Take on additional groups for fellow counselors during absences.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain current, accurate and complete patient records.
  • Record patient notes on the day of contact, and ensure files are maintained in accordance with organization's policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely, complete communication and treatment progress reports to courts, referents and resource agencies, as appropriate.
  • Participate in in-service, research, and training, as assigned.
  • Represent the KCS program at community events when requested.
  • Preform patient UA collection when necessary and in accordance with KCS guidelines.
  • Patient transports when necessary.
  • Commitment to the vision, values and mission of the agency.
  • Must be committed to working as part of an integrated team with a holistic approach to client wellness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee or Substance Use Disorder Professional license with the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Computer competency in word processing, spreadsheets, and data bases.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to express thoughts clearly in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with clients and the community.
  • Ability to multi-task and assume a variety of roles depending on need.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and maintain program goals and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively work with both youth and adult clients.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check & pass urinalysis testing.
  • Good personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Familiarity with concepts of historical/intergenerational trauma and trauma-informed care.
  • Must possess an unrestricted, valid driver’s license and be able to drive KCS transport vans. Must not have an SR-22 requirement.
  • If past drug/alcohol abuse exists, must have minimum of two years clean immediately prior to employment at KCS.
  • If past client of agency, must not have been a current client in the past year.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stamina to work 40 hours per week primarily in an office setting
  • Ability to reach and squat for filing purposes.
  • Walking and standing; sitting down, driving for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry light loads of approximately 25 pounds.
  • Requires use of standard office equipment, including computer, phone, fax, and photocopier.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population who may exhibit a wide range of emotions and behaviors.

OTHER DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to comply with the LOWER KLALLAM TRIBE policies and procedures, including the Drug Free Workplace.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to model the expectations of confidentiality.
