Share Email Opening Title HIstolotechnician or Histology Tech Assistant   Category Laboratory - 7010   Description JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for order entry, matching specimens, producing accurately labeled slides/cassettes and staining slides. Responsible for cleaning/room prep and for stain maintenance. This person may be trained to embed/cut specimens for slides. Ideally, this person will be an experienced phlebotomist that has proven attentive to detail, a quick learner, and who maintains good work habits. They must be able to learn the essential elements of the Histology job rapidly and be mentored by the Histology Lead Tech. They will perform these tasks in the absence of the Histology Lead Tech but under the direction of the pathologist. This associate will continue to provide key phlebotomy support to the lab and perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to communicate technical information clearly, both in direct communication and by phone. Must have excellent keyboarding skills. Must be capable of consistent, independent judgment under fluctuating workload pressure. Must maintain a high level of accuracy while simultaneously performing a variety of tests/tasks. This position requires the ability to move rapidly from location to location within the hospital. Requires interdepartmental support activities to more effectively provide patient care. This position requires the ability to accurately sort and distribute all types of body fluids, tissues, and other specimens brought to the lab for analysis. Must maintain competency per protocol. Must be proficient in phlebotomy and clerical lab duties prior to training as a tech assistant. Must have either experience in Histology or a year of experience at HRH, training in lab processes/specimen handling.
