OEC is currently accepting applications for IT Technician I. This is a full-time position located at OEC headquarters in Norman, OK. 

OEC is a nonprofit electric cooperative and is owned by those we serve—our members. We work for our members, not for distant investors. That means any revenue we make in excess of the cost to do business is returned to our members—similar to profits made by investor-owned utilities being distributed among their shareholders. OEC strives to be our members’ trusted, preferred energy provider and impactful community partner.

The IT Technician I is responsible for the maintenance, installation, and updating of information technology hardware, software, and peripherals supporting the business operations of the Cooperative. This also includes implementation and maintenance of the Cooperative’s and OEC Fiber’s communication, local area and wide area networks, and assists with cyber security. They work proactively to resolve issues and provide optimum services to Cooperative personnel. This position works closely with the Technology Services and Fiber & Broadband teams and provides assistance to all Cooperative personnel.

This position will occasionally be on-call and need to respond to after-hours, weekend, and emergency assignments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides initial support for IT Work Order Requests related to network, computer, mobile devices, peripheral devices, phone, printer/scanner, fax, and software issues.
    • Coordinates troubleshooting with the user, finds, documents, and implements resolution.
  • Assists in the setup of workstations/offices, mobile devices, and department equipment.
    • Installs, removes, and rearranges hardware such as computers, docking stations, phones, printers/scanners, and peripheral devices.
    • Installs software and network connections.
  • Maintains organized, clean, accessible comm rooms, server room, IT workroom, and IT warehouse.
  • Provides basic training and assistance for users on features of software, hardware, and operating systems.
  • Collaborates with cyber security vendor and implements recommendations and best practices.
  • Assists with the physical security of the OEC facilities.
    • Ensures proper operation of entry gates through regular and unscheduled maintenance of equipment and operating path.
  • Installs and maintains security cameras and software.
  • Assists with back office networking required for administrative support of the day-to-day operations of the Cooperative and OEC Fiber networks.
    • Maintains day-to-day security of networks and servers including operating systems and applications.
    • Assists with implementing network connectivity for LAN and WAN connections, including documentation of network connections.

Ideal candidates meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 year experiences OR Associate's degree and 4 years' experience OR minimum of 6 years' experience
    • Experience should be of a progressively increasing responsibility with technical troubleshooting, a server or network role, or related area.
    • Education should be in Information Technology or related field with courses in Network Administration, Cyber Security, Microsoft, Linux, and Cisco preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of hardware, software, and peripherals
  • Basic knowledge of a broad range of networking technologies, hardware, and software, including but not limited to: Windows Server, Linux, LAN/ WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VoIP including Latency and Jitter management, QOS, routing protocols, server virtualization, VPN, VLAN, broadcast and multicast traffic, UPS backup technologies, GPS, and SSL
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Cisco networking equipment, such as routers, switches, telephony, and security devices preferred
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of broadband and fiber technologies, including but not limited to: IPTV, GPON; fiber connections related to the plant and outside the plant in a field setting is preferred
  • Ability to:
    • Analyze needs and product requirements
    • Identifying complex problems and developing options and potential solutions
    • Monitoring/assessing performance of systems to make improvements or take action
    • Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it
    • Work with minimal supervision
