Easterseals UCP has an immediate need for a full-time Multi-Systemic Therapist (MST). This role is instrumental in utilizing an effective team approach designed to address the identified needs of children and adolescents between 12-17 years old with significant behavioral problems. We partner with children and their families who are transitioning from out-of-home placements or are at risk of out-of-home placement and need intensive interventions to remain stable in the community. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Conducts MST assessments including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses, and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context.
  • Assure, along with fellow clinicians, that clients have access to 24hours/day, 7 days/week support as needed.
  • Engages primary caregivers and other key participants (family members, community agency staff, supports) in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.
  • Implements a problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, and outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process.
  • Provides direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST principles and practices.
  • Provides modeling, positive reinforcement, redirection, and anticipatory guidance within recovery and strengths-based principles to help develop the independence of the person and/or family served.
  • Provides training to caregivers, service providers, and others who have a legitimate role in addressing the needs identified in the service plan.
  • Participates in community collaborative efforts to improve the delivery of community-based services in the region.
  • Monitors monthly financial reports and manage expenditures according to annualized budget, including receivables reports.
  • Receives regular supervision and training.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related subject area.
  • Persons with a related bachelor’s degree and significant clinical experience in treating serious antisocial behavior in youth may also qualify at the discretion of the agency with a minimum of one year's experience.
  • Demonstrate good moral and ethical character, clear of substantiated findings of abuse or neglect listed on the NC Health Care Registry.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking is highly preferred.
  • Telehealth sessions, moving towards going back to in-person sessions at the office, home, or work.

Preferred Experience:

  • Direct use of pragmatic (i.e. structural, strategic, and functional) family therapies
  • Individual therapy with children and adults using cognitive behavioral techniques
  • Marital therapy using behaviorally –based approaches
  • Behavioral therapy targeting school behavior and academic performance
  • Implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youth’s natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood

  • Family systems theory and application
  • Social-ecological theory and application
  • Behavioral therapies theory and application
  • Pragmatic family therapies theory and application
  • Child development research and its application in the treatment
  • Social skills assessment and intervention
