Description

Alter Company is looking to add to its fun Quincy, IL team. Alter Trading Corporation, a 120+ year old company, with 70+ scrap metal processing facilities throughout the Midwest and Southern region. Alter is committed to our customers by being the best source of both ferrous and non-ferrous metal and by giving great customer service.

About the Position:

> First shift
> Hourly rate, OT after 40 hours
> Local driving, short haul exempt, home daily
> Paid training (“you are hired and paid as an employee on day one”?)
> Holiday pay, generous vacation

> Wait to be loaded by either Alter or customer and drive loads to customer or Alter.
> Drive trucks around the yard while moving scrap material
> May operate equipment within the yard, loading or moving scrap material
> Wear all necessary PPE when working in the yard
> Follow company safety standards at all times, including COVID protocols.
> Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to insure motor vehicle is in safe operating condition
> Refuel truck
> Complete any DVIR in the event of defective equipment
> Drive to and from customer along established routes, including but not limited to residential streets, business areas, highways
> Attend safety meetings
> Communicate with dispatcher concerning delays, unsafe routes, accidents, equipment breakdowns
>Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

> Must have Class A CDL, with 1 year of commercial driving experience. 
> Candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 30-50 lbs. and 100+lbs on 2-person lift.
> General knowledge of difference between ferrous and non-ferrous material and equipment experience preferred.
>Excellent Customer Service Skills

Position Requirements

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.  Must have Class A CDL or Class B CDL (for straight truck) license and minimum 1-3 years verifiable experience.  Candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 30-50 lbs. and 100+lbs on 2-person lift.  General knowledge of difference between ferrous and non-ferrous material preferred and equipment experience preferred.
