Position Summary: Design mechanical aspects of products for concept development, and final production at scale.

In this role, you will:

  • Resource materials and components.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Create manufacturing documentation for prototyping and mass production.
  • Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function
  • Record and evaluate testing data, altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety,
  • performance, and efficiency standards.
  • Attend, and sometimes lead progress meetings and design reviews with peers.
  • Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design
  • specifications and providing physical assistance when required

 

 
Position Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Highly proficient in Solidworks.
  • Self-directed
  • Experience designing for these manufacturing processes:
    • Machined parts
    • Injection molded parts
    • Sheetmetal parts and assemblies (good working knowledge of PEM inserts and their application)
    • 3D Printing
  • General shop skills to accomplish the fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
  • Ability to liaison with manufacturers and fabricators for prototype and production parts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, mechanical preferred.
  • 3+ years of work experience in product development.
  • Experience transitioning from prototypes to volume manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of part numbering and revisioning standards and best practices.
  • Adept with mathematics pertaining to engineering calculations.
  • Ability to prepare and present slide shows for design reviews, weekly meeting, client
  • presentations, etc.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Practical experience integrating electronics in mechanical designs.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of tolerance definition and description on manufacturing drawings.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing practices. (GD&T)
  • Working knowledge of Mathematica.
  • Graduate degree in engineering or physics.
  • Machine shop skills (lathe, mill, etc.)
  • Programming skills – C, C++, Python, Java, etc.

Required Documents for Application:

  1. Portfolio of recent design work highlighting the portion of the design for which you were responsible.
  2. Sample of CAD work in native Solidworks format for review.
