Substance Use Counselor - Youth - Up to $55,000

Wyandot BHN is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to provide assessments, individual therapy, & Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment to primarily children/adolescents

Essential Job Duties:

  • Will conduct substance abuse evaluations/assessments for youth and young adults.
  • Will provide substance abuse education/prevention session(s) as needed for youth and young adults. Provide Level I and Level II outpatient treatment (individual and/or group) for youth and young adults.
  • Will provide Youth Level I and Level II outpatient treatment (individual and family based)
  • Will provide liaison services for youth and young adults to enter Residential/Intermediate Treatment when appropriate.
  • Will provide aftercare and/or reintegration services treatment for young adults and youth, (or liaison to appropriate program.)
  • Will participate in scheduled juvenile court hearings relating to clients, provide progress updates for court staff.
  • Will document client attendance, participation, progress, changes in treatment plan, etc., to the supervising officer or his/her designee at designated intervals in a designated format.
  • Will maintain appropriate clinical documentation on all clients served.
  • Will create substance abuse related educational and resource material for parents/guardians of justice involved youth and young adults.
  • Will provide professional guidance and resources to justice system workers during youth and young adult case planning meetings as needed.
  • Will keep current on new drug trends in the community, and work to educate justice professionals.
  • Will participate in task forces or committees to attempt problem solving regarding substance abuse issues.
  • Identifies strengths and needs of client/consumer and families and acts to involve them in planning for desired services.
 
Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

Preferred Education:

  • Master's Degree and current licensure in Kansas as a Qualified Mental Health Professional and master’s Level Addictions Counselor (LMAC), with preference given to clinical licensure. If not currently licensed as a LMAC, must be able to obtain licensure within 90 days of employment

Required Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in social work, human services  or related field with LBSW (licensed bachelor's social worker) and LAC (licensed addition counselor)

Experience & Skills:

  • Prior experience providing effective, efficient therapeutic services to children/adolescents facing severe emotional disturbance mental health illness.
  • Knowledge of trends and issues, laws and regulations related to the development and delivery of therapeutic services helpful.
  • Ability to establish relationships with clients and treatment teams.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills. The ability to manage multiple priorities under changing circumstances and timeframes.
  • Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Communicates directly and effectively in a cooperative manner with colleagues and representatives of other agencies.
  • Familiar with mental health theory and practice.
  • Familiar with treatment approaches to treatment substance use disorders with an emphasis on co-occurring disorders
  • Organizational skills to assist in managing a caseload, keeping up with progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Screening Solutions and Medicaid/Medicare Reimbursable inquires.

Pay Range $45,000 to $55,000
