POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION

 

Leads /works as a team to implement, manage and design network hardware and software solution for LAN's and WAN's in a fault tolerant, scalable, secure network environment. Manage telecommunications systems hardware and software. Analyze systems to propose best practices for both internal and external customers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides technical leadership and oversight in the design and implementation of fault tolerant, scalable, secure network solutions
  • Proposes process and product improvement opportunities to the organization
  • Provide Level 3 architecture and support services to Operational Engineering for Network technology solutions including but not limited to:
  • Cisco Routing
  • Cisco Layer 2-7 Switching
  • Cisco PIX/ASA Firewalls
  • Juniper layr2-7 Switching
  • Juniper Firewalls
  • Define, publish and enforce technical standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Mentor junior staff members in network technologies, solutions, and best practices

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Information Security Systems (IDS/IPS, Nessus) a plus
  • Knowledge of Unix (Solaris/Redhat Enterprise) a plus
  • Knowledge of Windows (Server 2012, Active Directory, exchange, clustering) a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Use expertise to provide technical direction to overall projects
  • Ability to lead and participate in projects that cross multiple technical disciplines.
  • Ability to develop technical standards and designs for projects.
  • Able to be highly confidential.
  • Proficient with computers to include the utilization of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Manages stress and/or fast-pace effectively.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree
  • Cisco Certification (CCNP, CCIE)

6+ years of the following:

  • Experience supporting Cisco & Juniper routers and switches
  • Experience supporting Cisco & Juniper L3 switches
  • Experience supporting PIX and Checkpoint firewalls
  • Experience supporting Cisco VoIP solutions
  • Experience provisioning and supporting telecommunications hardware and software
 
Position Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.
  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
  • Ability to lift and carry, up to 20 lbs
  • Able to climb a ladder and work on a raised platform

 

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Typical data center work environment with varying temperatures and loud noises
  • Extensive daily usage of a computer or workstation

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Responsible to carry a cell phone and provide 24 x 7 support as needed
  • Requires availability 24/7/365 on a rotational schedule
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays and on-call support
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations at the data center
  • Must be comfortable working in a highly critical, fast paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver’s license
