Easterseals UCP exists to provide meaningful and exceptional services so that children, adults, and families living with disabilities and/or mental health challenges can live, learn, work, and play in their community. 

For 64 transformative summers, Camp Easterseals UCP has provided quality recreational and therapeutic camp programming in the beautiful countryside of New Castle, Virginia. There, children and adults with disabilities are able to experience all the outdoors has to offer including horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, arts and crafts, ziplining and campfires thanks to an amazing group of dedicated team members.

The Camp Program Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing activities for program participants. This includes adapting activities such as arts and crafts, nature exploration, sports activities and games for individuals with varying physical and developmental needs. They also assist with cabin duties when not running programs.


  • Plan and implement appropriate activities for individuals and groups and assist in the planning of camp wide events.
  • Adapt activities to the abilities of participants, allowing everyone to participate with the opportunity for success.
  • Provide supervision of the program area during activities and ensure all participants and staff are following safety protocols.
  • Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Clean and maintain program area.
  • Complete an inventory of program area at the beginning and end of camp.
  • Review each activity after implementation and rate for future use.
  • Assist with rest and night duties when scheduled
  • Assist in daily and weekly cabin and camp clean-ups and with camper care as available.
  • Attend all required program/staff meetings.

Position Requirements


  • Must be at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or GED required. One year of college preferred. 
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
  • The ability to observe and assess the abilities of each participant and make appropriate accommodations.
  • The ability to lead individuals and large groups confidently.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff members and participants in order to provide instruction for the activity as well as inform about safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • The ability and willingness to work 12 consecutive days.
  • The physical ability to assist in transferring campers in and out of wheelchairs, push wheelchairs and to assist in other activities of daily living as needed.
  • The ability to identify and respond to potential environmental risks related to daily camp activities.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity and a sense of humor.

Waterfront staff must additionally have current lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent certification, current CPR and first aid certifications and experience with life guarding, aquatic instruction, pool management and canoeing. Experience with adaptive aquatic activities preferred.
