The Journeyman Information Technology Specialist shall assist senior personnel in support of Information Technology program objectives.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • The scope of work encompasses a full range of computer services for operations associated with in house information security.
  • Tasks may include, installing program packages, programming and maintaining various information processing applications, and analyzing, designing, purchasing and installing proposed information security systems.
  • Provides support to telecommunications efforts associated with security systems.
  • Individual has the skills and experience to take necessary actions to proactively address issues and guide support personnel to preclude system failures or disruption.
  • Possess the ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative work environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Provide functional and client support as well as information assurance support for the tasks described in the paragraphs below.
  • Possess and apply a comprehensive knowledge across key task and high impact assignments.
  • Plan and assist with major technology assignments across multiple networks.
  • Onsite contractor staff will function as technical experts across multiple project assignments, as well as complete task activities and requirements related to those listed in the subsequent paragraphs.
  • Work with government personnel to ensure technical support is available to prevent system outages, minimal downtime, and denial of or degraded service, and provide skilled technical assistance to personnel in the configuration, operation and management of secure video teleconferencing equipment.
  • Manage hardware and software and perform the configuration, management, and initial diagnostics of information systems.
  • Coordinate and document information systems repairs and perform system diagnostics to determine the cause of hardware and software failures.
  • Remove and replace components and peripherals to restore system operation, install and configure software operating systems and applications, and provide customer service to assist in operation, restoration, and configuration of information systems.
  • Conduct inventory of computer hardware and software and ensure all software licensing agreements are adhered to.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the organization’s COMSEC account in accordance with government instruction and requirements and conduct self-inspections of COMSEC account and inventory COMSEC material as required by the government.
  • Support the government Configuration Control Board (CCB).
  • Comply with the ability to obtain and maintain Information Assurance Technical level II certification requirement in accordance with DOD 8570.01 M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, paragraph C3.2.
  • Work with government personnel to serve as the System Administrator for classified Local Area Networks, responsible for diagnosing and resolving computer and network related problems and reporting issues to customers and vendors alike.
  • Perform system backups, apply operating system updates, software security patches, make configuration changes, create, maintain and delete user accounts.
  • Make group policy changes, install and configure hardware and software, and compile records and reports concerning all network operations and maintenance, in accordance with government approved procedures.
  • Provide input to discussions regarding information system standards and budget constraints.
  • Design and configure hardware, software, operating systems and other platform specifications and develop/maintain an organizational configuration management plan.
  • Utilize software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose problems and factors affecting classified and unclassified network and standalone system performance.
  • Update security databases, as required, and recommend functional changes or modifications for improved processing, operations, and customer support.
  • Follow and assist in enforcing unit approved Standard Operating Procedures and Information Assurance Standard Operating Procedures and provide technical assistance to the government security officer.
  • Assist with self-inspection tasks.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the organization’s COMSEC account in accordance with government instruction and requirements.
  • Assist with the conduct of COMSEC account self-inspections and inventories, as required by the government.
  • Support the government Configuration Control Board (CCB).

  • Analyze, design, purchasing, and install proposed information security systems.
  • Provide support to telecommunications efforts associated with security systems.
  • Implement and maintain the policies and goals for the IT department to support the government's needs.
  • Conduct research and recommend the selection of IT equipment, applications, and supplies.
  • Ensure that project milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the timely process through which problems are controlled; problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution and follow-up steps.
  • Assist with proposal development, if necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
