What You Would Be Doing

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides all patient care services as outlined in medical protocols under the supervision of the Director of Nursing or their designee. The Medical Assistant is responsible for understanding the use of maintenance of and sanitization of medical equipment. The CMA must also have an excellent working knowledge of the electronic health record and a basic understanding of medications and treatments given in the primary care setting. In addition, the MA will assist health care providers with routine medical procedures. The MA functions following established policies and procedures within their scope of practice.

  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the provider visit.
  • Actively manage the safety and sanitization of the clinical care areas before, during, and after patient care visits.
  • Clean and sanitize instruments.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, including sharps and supplies contaminated with blood and bodily fluids, following established safety protocols and procedures.
  • Accurately record patients’ medical history, reason-for-visit, medications, and vital statistics.
  • Reinforce providers’ instructions to patients.
  • Prepare and administer medications.
  • Under the written direction of the provider, communicate with patients and/or caregivers via telephone and secure patient portals.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones and scheduling appointments.
  • Follow established health center procedures for patient billing and reimbursement.
  • Participate in staff medical education programs and patient health education activities as required.
  • Report any discrepancies, irregularities, and/or violations involving clinical care, administrative procedures, billing issues, or other BH protocols to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain professional competence by completing appropriate specialty requirements of CME.
  • Maintain current certifications.
  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Successful completion of Boundless Health credentialing and privileging review upon hire and re-credentialing.
 
Position Requirements

Required Education/Experience:

  • Medical Assisting Certificate from an accredited school or program (i.e. hospital, community college, or an adult education certificate program).
  • CNA or Adult Education Medical Assisting Certificate Program, with two years of experience performing Medical Assistant duties in a professional setting.

Required Licensure/Certification:

  • First Aid, CPR - adult, child, and infant; or the ability to become certified in CPR/FA within 60 days of hire (training will be provided).
  • Preferred valid Ohio Driver’s License with Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles; proof of auto insurance; insurable driving record (five points or fewer).

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of common hazards and safety protocols to maintain a safe health environment.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Knowledge of reporting protocols essential to the proper functioning and operation of BH, and the responsibility of each employee to comply with them.

Work Environment:

  • Works in a well-lighted environment with comfortable surroundings
  • Duties may involve some occupational risk with exposure to chemicals, bodily fluids, and injury from sharp and delicate equipment.
  • Stressful at times due to staff or patient/family interactions and project deadlines.

Physical Demands:

  • Significant portions of daily assignments may involve the application of manual skills requiring hand-eye coordination, in combination with finger dexterity.
  • Standing, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • May be required to assist patients on and off examining tables.
  • May be required to assist patients who have a mobility impairment, including, but not limited to, pushing a wheelchair, assisting patients with crutches or braces, etc.

The prerequisite for this position is candidates either need to be fully vaccinated or willing to get vaccinated.
