POSITION SUMMARY: With minimal supervision, perform a broad range of tasks and duties associated with general building custodial services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Through a work order system, as well as direction from others, provide general building custodial tasks including but not limited to: entrance ways, hallways, restrooms, shower rooms, kitchens, lounges, stairwells, dorm rooms, etc.
- Keep building furniture, equipment and premises clean, neat and safe at all times.
- Make efficient use of custodial supplies
- Operate various types of custodial equipment
- Maintain custodial inventory, place orders for custodial supplies and receive/verify delivery of custodial supplies.
- Provide routine care and maintenance to cleaning equipment.
- Perform minor repairs when possible and report the need for maintenance work orders to be written when repairs require special skills.
- Provide routine plant services coverage to assigned areas and to other areas during absences of departmental personnel.
- Evaluate and assist with selection of new cleaning products and equipment.
- Comply with all safety procedures and work guidelines encountered in the maintenance and operation of institutional buildings and built and natural environments. Communicate issues to managers or supervisors; actively participate in training activities, seminars and safety meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED, valid Pennsylvania driver's license, up to one year of related experience, or a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the requirements of this position.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring above average physical strength.
- Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, etc., in ditches, freight elevators or other confining spaces.
- Possess the ability to work independently, under the direction of others, follow oral and written instructions, and work with other staff members as part of a team to create and maintain a positive, productive, safe and efficient work environment.
