Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager of Strategic Communications position is responsible for the development and implementation of marketing communications and public relations plans to raise the visibility of YWCA Minneapolis’ mission and programs. Serves as an integral part of creating and delivering information, both outside of and inside the organization, and establishing positive associations with the public and mass media on behalf of YWCA Minneapolis. This position collaborates with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing team, department marketing liaisons and external partners to develop integrated communications solutions to achieve business goals and objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategy Development

  • Develop and facilitate strategic marketing and communications plans
  • Work with Marketing Team to develop and plan key annual marketing-led initiatives
  • Contribute to the process for metrics, analytics and evaluation review across the department
  • Identify and implement efficiencies, new tools and marketing trends
  • Lead quarterly cross-business meetings

Marketing and Communications

  • Understand and interpret YWCA’s mission and key messages to external and internal audiences
  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of strategic and tactical external and internal marketing and communications plans/key initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to write and present ideas, information and design in concise, creative, compelling and persuasive ways to multiple audiences; develop and edit content as needed
  • Lead marketing and communications review and approval process, assuring quality assurance and brand identity standards are met
  • Responsible for planning editorial calendars and development and execution of mission-focused external and internal communications, including blog posts, enewsletters, key print publications, digital/social media, other
  • Leverage mission-aligned topical issues to increase visibility and audience engagement
  • Understand and respond strategically to changing needs of audiences using appropriate forms and channels of communications, including print, e-communications, digital/social media, video, direct mail, promotions, etc.
  • Project management and communications to support core marketing partnerships, initiatives, external partners
  • Build and maintain relationships with outside vendors; manage vendor invoices for approval and timely payment

Public Relations

  • Leads development and implementation of effective public relations plan
  • Responsible for media relations and proactively creates and maintains positive relationships with the public and mass media
  • Controls information output and handles incoming requests for information from media outlets
  • Drafts, sends press releases to print and broadcast media outlets
  • Responsible for crisis communication/preparedness plans
  • Defines and tracks key performance indicators, measurements

Project Management

  • Aid in developing and facilitating tactical plans for key projects, events and campaigns
  • Identify and implement project management tools
  • Promote team collaboration and communication

Supervision and Coaching

  • Directly supervise Social Media Specialist
  • Serve as a digital communications coach for the team to introduce new trends, implement a data-driven approach and ensure best practices are utilized
  • Supervise department intern(s) when applicable

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Critical relationships include the Marketing team, department marketing liaisons, internal and external stakeholders.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Minimum of eight years of experience, specializing in writing/developing consumer, nonprofit, or related marketing communications
  • Excellent communications skills, including AP style copy writing and editing
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective communications/multimedia vehicles to engage and motivate audiences across multiple offline and digital channels
  • Knowledge of graphic communications, advertising, campaigning, news writing
  • Leadership skills with ability to serve as unifying force and position communications discussion at strategic and tactical levels
  • Proven abilities in strategy creation and problem-solving
  • Experience in employee coaching and development
  • Knowledge, experience with digital image sizing, website content management systems, email newsletter platforms and using social media to manage, amplify brand voice
  • Proactively manage complex projects with tight deadlines and multiple inputs
  • Creativity, ability to think outside of the box
  • Detail and results-oriented

 

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Hybrid work schedule
  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • The employee must infrequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Travel to various YWCA Minneapolis sites and community events as needed

 

COMPENSATION: The pay range for this position is $54,080-$67,600 per annual (depending on qualifications)
