JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Recreation, primarily responsible for the planning, promotion, implementation, supervision and evaluation of the Gymnastics/Cheer/Ninja programs, competitive Gymnastics/Cheer teams, special gymnastic groups, events and other assigned programs.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks administration, gymnastics or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Three years’ experience as a recreation supervisor/manager with emphasis in gymnastics
  • Certification in first aid and CPR or acquire within 6 months of hire
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a car

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of program management and special event administration with the ability to effectively communicate these practices to others.
  • Strong management base and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving expertise and the ability to articulate well in both verbal and written form.
  • Ability to recognize safety concerns and provide a safe environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish a rapport by using tact and discretion with customers, staff, competitive gymnastic/cheer teams’ parents, local organizations and community representatives.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Basic knowledge of marketing and labor law.
  • Knowledge of Vermont Systems (VSI) recreation software, preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, analyze and prepare the gymnastics/cheer/Ninja and other assigned program budgets.
  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and discipline staff and instructors for assigned programs and responsibilities creating an environment for success.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling and bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Provide a program of continuous in-service training for all assigned staff.
  • Foster an environment of positivity and teamwork amongst participants and staff.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and KPIs for gymnastics, cheers, Ninja and other events.
  • Purchase materials for assigned programs.
  • Process monthly invoices by the last day of the month.
  • Provide information for monthly Customer Care Newsletter.
  • Prepare, manage and communicate monthly payment plans for all assigned programs: submitting monthly Trial Balances for those programs.
  • Create seasonal program plans through the evaluation of community/customer need. Solidify program plans through the development of seasonal brochure, facility reservation process, activity/brochure proofing cycles and communicating all program plan information updates and status changes.
  • Collaborate with marketing department to promote programs and events through various marketing tools and stay current with marketing trends.
  • Notify other department managers on needs for programs, exhibitions, meets, events and community functions.
  • Explore alternative funding through grants, sponsorships, partnerships, in-kind donations and cooperatives.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationship with civic and community agencies and volunteers.
  • Address citizen and community concerns and inquiries.
  • Attend department meetings and other District meetings as directed.
  • Communicate with Superintendent of Recreation on any situations requiring additional attention.
  • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Walking: while reviewing programs and facilities

Talking/Hearing: to communicate with staff and public

Seeing: to use computer, drive a vehicle and observe students and instructors for routines

Sitting: for computer work and driving to events

Reaching: to train for routines, to get items in storage

Pulling/Pushing: to open & close doors and drawers, to move equipment around for routines

Stooping/Crouching: to retrieve files, items in storage, to show routines

Lifting/Carrying: to set up tables and equipment for gym and events (up to 40-50 pounds for short distances)

 

 

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

Must have the ability to read, write, and organize materials. Ability to plan, direct, and supervise staff. Ability to develop and administer a complex budget. Ability to understand basic computer programs. Must be able to drive an automobile.

This position is full time, salary, exempt

This position is eiligible to participate in the mandatory Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension

 

HOURS

The Recreation Manager of Gymnastics shall have no established hours yet is required to invest the time necessary to produce exceptional results. This position is subject to evenings, weekends and events.
