The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Director of Safety & Security, the Manager will develop and implement safety and security programs, emergency response, and training for the entire Museum. This is an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate to manage the safety and security team and provide leadership to all staff to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, the collections, and other assets of the Academy Museum.

You Will:

  • Be responsible for security and safety in galleries, theaters, retail spaces, and outdoor and other assembly areas.
  • Be responsible for developing the security team structure and hiring and training security personnel.
  • Lead training of visitor services, theater, and other public-facing personnel in the areas of security, safety, and emergency response.
  • Oversee the security operations center and maintenance and repairs of all security systems including the access control and camera systems.
  • Assist the supervisor with developing and managing the annual security budget including for repair and staffing vendor services, supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Develop and implement robust emergency preparedness and response programs to prepare for a variety of possible scenarios including earthquakes, fire, active shooter, civil unrest, HazMat, etc.
  • Facilitate regular training and conduct drills in compliance with museum policy and applicable laws.
  • Oversee the purchasing, distribution, and maintenance of emergency supplies.
  • Lead and staff major public programs and events to ensure safety.
  • Assist in developing and implementing crowd control procedures for large gatherings and hire and coordinate supplemental security personnel from third-party vendors.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • 5+ years in a safety and/or security leadership role with progressively greater responsibilities in museums, event or public performance venues, or similar institutions.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills and can think on one’s feet.
  • Experience managing and maintaining access control and CCTV systems.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of security systems.
  • Knowledge of laws related to security operations in public facilities in California.
  • Knowledge of Cal-OSHA regulations, fire department regulations, and other health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing for long periods of time, walking, stair climbing, forward bend or squatting, moderate lifting, and sitting at a desk for up to an hour.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
