Description

JOB SUMMARY:

  • This person should provide an excellent experience for patients when collecting blood and other specimens.
  • May be required to work within the hospital as well as from off sites.
  • Prepares send-out specimens, processes and distributes samples, loads analyzers, performs waived moderately complex testing, and assists clerical functions.
  • The work is subject to review by appropriate supervisors and the Medical Director of the Lab.
  • Requires interdepartmental support activities to more effectively provide patient care.
  • This position requires the ability to move rapidly from location to location within the hospital.
  • This position requires accurate color perception.
  • This position requires variable work hours and weekend/holiday rotation including some scheduling on all shifts.
  • Must maintain a high level of accuracy while simultaneously performing a variety of tests/tasks.
  • Must maintain competency per protocol.
  • This person is accountable to section supervisors for work performed in different areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to accurately produce test results and evaluate variances.
  • Must be capable of consistent, independent judgement under fluctuating workload pressure.
  • Must be able to communicate technical information clearly, both in direct communication and by phone.
  • Must be accessible by phone for back-up coverage.
  • This position requires the ability to accurately sort and distribute all types of body fluids, tissues, and other specimens brought to the lab for analysis.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Phlebotomy certification preferred and/or phlebotomy training from post-secondary school, High School Diploma and valid Indiana Driver’s License.
  • Must be proficient in phlebotomy and clerical lab duties prior to training as a tech assistant.
  • Must have either a year of experience at HRH, training in lab processes/specimen handling.
