Share Email Opening Title Lead Hematology Technologist MT/MLT $10,000 Sign-On Bonus  Category Laboratory - 7010   Description JOB SUMMARY: This position exists to oversee laboratory testing on patient specimens performed in a specific area (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank or Microbiology). Maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to oversee acceptable test results within quality control standards. May act as a key resource person for team members inside and outside of the department. Instructs team members on laboratory procedures and techniques to ensure accurate lab results. Plans, organizes, and directs the flow so all applicable regulations are met. This position assumes responsibility for quality control procedures, instrument function checks, inventory, quality assurance, and any maintenance procedures in assigned areas. Responsible for team member training and competency. Performs all tasks according to standard operating procedures. May work on the development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director. The person that fills this position will remain competent to work in the specified department as well as in other areas of the laboratory. QUALIFICATIONS: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to accurately produce test results and evaluate variances. This position requires the ability to accurately sort and distribute all types of body fluids, tissues, and other specimens brought to the lab for analysis. This position requires variable work hours and weekend/holiday rotation. Must be capable of consistent, independent judgement under fluctuating workload pressure. Must be able to communicate technical information clearly, both in directly and by phone. Requires the ability to move rapidly from location to location within the hospital. Interact with physicians, nursing units, and co-workers concerning questions or problems identified on the shift. Act as a liaison between co-workers on the shift and the supervisor to assure staff concerns are addressed and that the hospital/lab interests are fairly represented. Model compliance with lab and hospital safety rules with regards to wearing gloves, lab coats and/or PPE. Notifies the supervisor of any performance trends identified, of any unresolved problems on the shift, between shifts, or with other departments. Performs other duties as assigned. Must display good interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal skills.   Position Requirements CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Med Lab Tech (MLT); Med Technologist (MT ASCP) ADDITONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: MT(ASCP), MLT(ASCP), HLT(ASCP) or HT(ASCP) or equivalent education/experience to per CLIA 88. Must maintain competency per protocol. ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Associate in Science or Bachelor of Science in medical technology, biology, chemistry, or related science; and/or Board-registered or eligible for registry by one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, HEW, etc.). Must meet CLIA 88 "Testing Personnel" requirements for moderate and high complexity testing. Prefer candidate have 5 or more years of generalist technologist experience with at least 1 year experience in the area of expertise, but will consider on a case by case basis.
