Journeyman Computer Security Systems Engineer

Description

The Journeyman Computer Security Systems Engineer will support ongoing network support, IT support engineering, network administration, first-line support, second-line support, security engineering and network architecture work.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • Provides daily technical/program manager support for packet analysis; intrusion detection; performance analysis; and advanced design.
  • Explores network equipment that includes operating systems, integration and testing, and cross functional work experience to facilitate support of multiple IP-Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
  • Evaluates new products/devices as well as software protocols for various regions within the command.
  • References and helps implement network standards (Base Area Network - BAN), configuration and AF Waiver requests, Quality of Service, virtual private network (VPN) technology, everything over Internet Protocol (EoIP), wireless distribution (alternative to fiber), Suite B, Authority To Operate processing, and wireless applications as applicable to the performance work statement.
  • Organizes or serves as a member of site survey or other teams as required.
  • Reviews and analyzes existing and planned systems to ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force (AF) instructions, policies and guidance supporting fixed AMC Command and Control (C2) facilities within the continental U.S. and overseas locations.
  • Analyzes system functionality, interoperability, and integration of radio frequency systems, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), analog voice, video, alarms, and networks for use in the C2 facility.
  • Analyzes the survivability of the systems deployed in the C2 facility to operate through various contingency operations.
  • Assists with technical writing, proposal development, award, and implementation of contract projects at eleven AMC locations.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in telecommunication network systems or computer network engineering including wired and wireless technologies.
  • Experience working with VoIP and EoIP systems.
  • Experience resolving diverse information technology and network management issues which have resulted in key process improvements.
  • Background providing consultative and contractor services across multiple areas within the telecommunications and/or information technology industry.
  • Experience on site survey or implementation teams.
  • Experienced/knowledgeable on 802.11 (a,b,g,ac), 802.1x, 802.11i, EAP, TTLS, TKIP, Radius, and radio frequency communication principals and security protocols.
  • Knowledgeable of network transmission systems and applications (wired and wireless).
  • Understands interoperability issues between mixed types of network/equipment to include wired and wireless network equipment.
  • Knowledge of new technology to enhance and expand network use of Unified Communications (UC) in Air Force and major command architectures.
  • Understanding of system/program management (cradle to grave) to include requirements validation, cost proposals, business case analysis, and sustainment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and training/certifications.
  • Certified Telecommunications Subject Matter Expert or Cisco Certified Network Professional desired.

Other Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customer and fulfill all duties and responsibilities as listed in the contract.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Security Clearance: Secret security clearance required.
