Salary $111,694 DOQ  
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Required BS and Preferred Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related field, including Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, GIS, Public Administration, Political Science, or other similarly related field; supplemented by eight (8) years of experience in planning, zoning and development review; and four (4) years supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Requires a Professional certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

Requires a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Description

Position Summary:

This classification directs the planning and organizing of projects, administers community development activities, and coordinates the implementation of land development.

Essential Functions:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Department’s various divisions including Animal Control, Planning, and Land Development.
  • Oversees and participates in the enforcement of the City’s zoning and subdivision ordinances and other adopted codes.
  • Examines applications for compliance with established plans and ordinances, and applicable local, state or federal regulations.
  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow.
  • Provides technical and professional advice; draft reports and makes presentations to the City Council, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public.
  • Schedules and prepares agendas for Planning and Zoning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings. Plans for and holds public meetings or hearings, including public notices, press releases, and notices to surrounding properties.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
  • Prepares, administers, and monitors department budget.
  • Educate general public on Community Development and Regulatory Affairs processes and procedures.
