Project HIRE Instructor/Employment Specialist (100% Grant Funded) 

Description

This position supports a grant funded specialized Work Prep program, Project HIRE by providing students instruction in math, reading, writing, study/testing skills and life skills to support successful completion of their TTC program and entry into the workplace or higher education.

  1. Create an optimal learning environment for small and large group instruction as well as individualized tutoring, maintain and appropriate balance of classroom decorum.
  2. Plan and organize instructional materials, modify (update) lesson plans and instruct students in math, reading and/or writing skills using current instructional strategies to assure highest quality instruction.
  3. Administer assessments as needed to assess students’ competency level. Evaluate students on a recurrent basis using various competency tests to provide timely indications of student’s progress toward the level of math, reading, and/or writing competency and knowledge required for successful completion of their TTC program.
  4. Provide instruction and training to enhance the students’ life skills required for making a successful transition into the workplace.
  5. Maintain up-to-date records of student attendance, academic progress and grades as required by District policy and referring agencies.
  6. Collaborate with instructors to develop Study Skills Curriculum that directly pertains to skills and competencies required in their chosen programs.
  7. Assist with miscellaneous projects/assignments in support of the Project HIRE Coordinator, as assigned.
  8. Employability Skills: Coordinate, oversee and conduct all employability skills training sessions according to DHS guidelines to ensure the Project HIRE students have the best opportunity for success in the work environment and are meeting the TANF requirements.
  9. Career Exploration: Responsible for assisting the Project HIRE students with exploring career paths and training programs offered at Tulsa Tech.
  10. Pre-Employment: Monitor and offer support to the Project HIRE students while in job search to secure their success and to meet the requirements of the TANF contract with DHS. Set clear objectives, monitor progress and results and provide feedback to the student.
  11. Outreach: Market program in the community and increase community and business contacts in order to identify and utilize opportunities for student worksites and employment for TANF clients.
  12. Establish professional working relationships with all appropriate entities such as ODCTE, DHS, TTC, etc. and assist with the establishment of a program Advisory Committee to support the goals and objectives of the HIRE program.
  13. Attend district trainings and conferences periodically as budget permits.
  14. Perform tasks and duties relevant to any of various roles or responsibilities assigned by supervision and determined by management to be appropriate for this position; comply with all policy, procedure, regulation and other communicated requirements as may be in effect for the workgroup or worksite.
 
Position Requirements
  • This position requires 3 years of experience assisting adult students and/or clients in the areas of job development, job placement, community services and social services.
  • This position also requires 1 year of experience instructing adult learners in reading, writing, math and/or study skills.
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certification is preferred

Salary Schedule Instructional Services Personnel  
Hiring Range $45,134 to $51,858 annually dependent on experience and education, plus additional $6,900 compensation for salary-in-lieu of dependent benefit coverage.
