The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active ‘partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Chief Artistic and Programming Officer, the Vice President of Digital Content and Strategy will shape the vision, voice, and strategy of the Academy Museum’s growing digital media focus. You will further our goal of using digital platforms to connect visitors to the Academy Museum’s exploration of the arts, sciences, and social impact of filmmaking. We are seeking an individual who has a passion for movies, a thirst for innovation, and the enthusiasm to drive storytelling to help position the Museum as the center of the conversation about film from a global and inclusive perspective.

You Will:

  • Lead the vision and strategy for the Museum’s digital creative evolution that pushes forward growth, retention, discovery, visitor engagement, and revenue generation.
  • Provide expertise in developing digital content connected to the Museum’s exhibitions and programs as well as separately curated pieces for the Museum’s website, mobile app, podcast series, and social media channels.
  • Create, drive, and advocate for a digital media strategy that aligns with the Museum’s mission, values, and goals.
  • Ensure digital content is developed with a focus on expanding external platforms to reach and grow a diverse, engaged, and global virtual visitor base in the most impactful and efficient ways possible.
  • Act as key owner for all digital creative across the Museum, including in-gallery media.
  • Oversee existing team of excellent producers, developers, and curators.
  • Oversee budget creation and management for the department.
  • Oversee content production calendars for all digital channels, including digital editorial content and publishing workflow.
  • Utilize key performance metrics to maximize visitor engagement.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communication Department to develop a holistic content plan for social channels that ensures brand consistency, for the creation of content for digital ad campaigns, and that supports museum-wide marketing and fundraising.
  • Collaborate with various departments to drive ideation and creation.
  • Build relationships with Academy members and filmmakers and develop strategic partnerships for the creation of compelling content that meets ambitious growth goals without compromising creative integrity and organizational values.
  • Develop and manage direct relationships with social platform representatives.
  • Lead a team working to enhance the on-site experience, and to expand the Museum’s signature exhibitions and programs and educational initiatives beyond the Museum’s walls.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • 10+ years of digital media creative and strategy experience at cultural institutions or entertainment companies, including experience leading content creation teams and strategy, especially remotely.
  • Strong track record of producing high quality digital content from ideation to post-production.
  • Knowledge of social media video content strategy (including TikTok, IG Live, Facebook, YouTube, etc).
  • A great sense of mentorship, upskilling, team building, and culture development.
  • Knowledge of the primary critical metrics that determine success of digital organic and paid creative.
  • Proven understanding of different social media channels and content performance strengths for Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, Snap, and Facebook.
  • Strong knowledge of museum practices, including digital media content of peer and related cultural institutions.
  • Film subject matter expertise with experience collaborating with artists on content creation.
  • Strong knowledge of film, filmmakers, and the film industry globally.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and structure work schedules in a fast-paced environment.
  • SEO expertise, with in-depth knowledge of how to drive, track, and troubleshoot SEO performance both written and video content.
  • High fluency in content-related data and analysis through Sprout Social, Google Analytics and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Experience pulling and presenting performance reports, deriving actionable insights, telling compelling data stories to internal and external stakeholders, and monitoring and optimizing based on key learnings.
  • Analytical and quick thinking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced video editing skills and experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Illustrator as well as Spark AR / Lens Studio, iMovie etc. are ideal.
  • Advanced photo editing/graphic design skills and experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A constant pulse on forming cultural trends and the innate awareness of when to act on them.
