SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs simultaneous and consecutive Spanish language translation and interpreter services for County departments; translates documents and written materials as needed.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Simultaneously and consecutively interprets Spanish/English questions and answers during interviews and meetings; works with justice agencies, public health clients, and others as needed.
  • Makes professional and precise translations of documents; reviews translations and verifies accuracy.
  • Reviews written documents and materials; provides verbal and written Spanish/English translation of documents and materials; maintains a variety of files, records, statistics, and related documentation associated with interpreter services.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years of progressively responsible experience interpreting and translating Spanish to and from English; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho license and maintain an acceptable driving record; if not a Wyoming resident, it is expected that you hold a current Driver's License from another state and will obtain a Wyoming Driver's license within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 90 days).
  • Specific technical skills training and certifications required within six months of hire date.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • County policies and procedures.
  • English and Spanish languages, including vocabulary, grammar, phonology, and dialects.
  • Methods, techniques, and procedures used in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
  • Basic principles and practices of record keeping and records management.

 

Required Skills in:

  • Communicating verbally and in written form in both English and Spanish languages.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, and the general public.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.

Hiring Range $23.28 - $26.34 per hr
