Position Adult Services Librarian  
Description

Under the supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Director, the Adult Services Librarian performs essential reference functions while staffing service desks, participating in library outreach efforts, selecting materials for library purchase, and cataloging materials. They are also responsible for planning, organizing and conducting adult programs and supporting patron and staff use of technology.

  • Serve at service desks to provide reference, reader’s advisory, and other assistance to patrons.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct innovative adult library programs and services.
  • Support Assistant Director in adult programming development and scheduling.
  • Participate in library outreach as a representative of the library and work with community groups and organizations on partner projects or events.
  • Order library materials for assigned collections and oversee the complete collection development cycle.
  • Catalog and process materials as needed.
  • Work with patrons and staff on technology and operation of library equipment.
  • Manage library meeting room schedules and assists with booking of facility space. Manages meeting room software and room setup.
  • Manage library volunteers by recruiting, interviewing and onboarding potential volunteers and maintaining all necessary paperwork.
  • Serve on additional committees or boards as a representative of the library.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Tuesday 12p-8p
  • Wednesday 8a-4p
  • Thursday 12p-8p
  • Friday 9a-5p

 

 
Position Requirements

Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) Degree from an American Library Association accredited institution is required.

  • Working knowledge of library methods, operations and procedures.
  • Strong customer service experience with a commitment to high quality service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uses appropriate judgment in handling information and records.
  • Has working knowledge of traditional and electronic resources and is well-versed in online search databases.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers, software and electronic equipment.
  • Proficient with various computer applications.
  • Able to follow detailed directions and perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, organize and prioritize work, and respond to changing work demands.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical regulations and instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information both in written and verbal form with library patrons, staff and supervisors.

Compensation $52,152 (2022 wage)
