Vice President, Member Relations and Awards 

Description

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Member Relations and Awards, the Vice President will focus on strategic outreach with the international filmmaking community, as well as oversee the International Feature Film category. You will manage and lead strategy, oversight, and policy for the organization's mission of building a global community of filmmakers. You have deep connections and relationships with international film festivals, distributors, and filmmakers. In this highly visible role, both internally and externally, you feel completely comfortable speaking publicly/virtually as well as have an understanding and ability to represent the Academy internationally. You will work in collaboration across departments within the Academy to inform and represent the Academy's growing international footprint and international membership.

In this critical global position within the organization, you will actively engage with our international film community including the International Feature Film Selection Committees. You excel at diplomacy, establishing and developing relationships, leadership, and maintaining composure in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our international members as well as the international filmmaking community.
  • Oversee the International Feature Film category and actively engage with the International Feature Film Selection Committees.
  • Speak publicly on a wide range of topics related to the international film industry as well as the International Feature Film awards process and eligibility.
  • Be accountable for performance and mid to long term results for the Academy.
  • Develop and increase awareness relative to the Academy's mission to further international member engagement.
  • Have a deep understanding while remaining neutral when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Develop strategies on the new membership initiatives and contribute towards the membership review process and administration.
  • Make decisions that drive the success of the Academy.
  • Make decisions as guided by broad policies and Academy strategies.
  • Define and provide strategic direction and monitor results in the mid to long term for a significant business unit (library, museum, etc.) or across multiple functions.
  • Represent the Academy externally concerning matters of critical interest and significance.
  • Provide leadership and direction through leaders at the Director level and above.
  • Collaborate with CEO, Director and President of the Academy Museum or other internal and external top leaders to form strategies.
  • Contribute directly to Academy priorities and plans to align with overall vision, mission, and values.
  • Partner with the Communications, Marketing, IT and various departments to develop, refine, and drive the global strategic vision for the Academy including a coordinated strategy across major organization initiatives to achieve overall Academy goals.
  • Lead, develop, mentor, and recruit a small but growing staff of up and coming professionals.
  • Support Business Development team with partnership strategy and deal analysis.
  • Contribute industry knowledge and trends, thought leadership, and a growth perspective to the organization.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience, including international film and festival experience. Multilingual a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience working with a non-profit, membership-based organization, preferably at a film or arts-focused institution.
  • Demonstrated experience directly leading and managing staff, including assigning tasks to support staff and providing performance feedback.
  • Ability to work independently while juggling priorities and managing time effectively to follow through on meeting deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle a sometimes-heavy workload in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be proactive in asking questions when needed and resourceful in solving problems.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills with special attention to detail.
  • Must exhibit a high level of professionalism and confidentiality while being supportive and personable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office. Experience with CRM desired.
  • Ability to anticipate needs and act upon requests independently.
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in film history and current motion picture industry.
  • Availability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays on short notice as needed.
