Summary

The Grant Accountant applies principles of accounting and is the subject matter expert for the grants by multiple funders for SAL Family and Community Services (SALFCS). This includes maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial statements and completing all grant-related functions. Utilizes QuickBooks Accounting software to process data and complete reports and other documentation.

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Grant Processing and Reporting (30%)

  • Prepare grant reports for review by the CFO, executive leadership, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Monitor coding and allocations between programs and the various grants. Assist the program directors and other staff when necessary regarding proper coding of expenses and federal policies regarding purchases.
  • Generate, audit and file payable reports along with supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile and analyze all related general ledger journals, accounts, ledgers, and/or other records on a monthly basis for accuracy of coding by program and department, to post transfers for grant revenue, and any other items related to the grant.
  • Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, company procedures, and stay current on the rules and regulations regarding proper use of State and Federal Grant funds.
  • Assist with any and all audit preparation and needs.
  • Oversee period close processes to include monthly, quarterly, and annual timeframes.
  • Maintain the financial management of contracts/grants in accordance with governmental regulations as necessary.

Accounting Assistance Functions (20%)

  • Update and maintain journal vouchers, ledgers, and other records to post Electronic Fund Transactions for grant revenue, parent payments, and other miscellaneous items.
  • Prepare receipts for deposit and prepare and post cash receipts in accounting software.
  • Generate information for budget preparation and year-end projections.
  • Determine proper handling of financial transactions and data enters them.
  • Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
  • Assist with implementation of any new accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
  • Assist the Accounting Supervisor and CFO with any accounting functions needing completed.

Administrative Functions (10%)

  • Assist or prepare correspondence, make photocopies, fax documents, and performs other clerical functions.
  • Process mail.
  • Attend occasional meetings, trainings, etc. as needed or requested.
