Regional Safety Manager 



The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation, evaluation and improvement of the USA Truck, Inc. Safety, Compliance and Security Management System by focusing on the continuous improvement of collision/injury reduction, driver training, DOT compliance and CSA BASIC scores. The Manager will drive operational accountability to ensure driver and company compliance with all company and governing regulations. As point of contact for Operations and Terminal Management, the Manager will drive execution of both strategic and tactical initiatives at the terminal and fleet level.

Successfully filled, the Regional Safety Manager will improve performance in all primary safety metrics; improve company-wide safety, compliance and security awareness; drive consistent implementation and execution of strategic and tactical initiatives; improve regulatory compliance; and reduce all CSA BASIC scores.


  • Lead the development, deployment and continuous improvement of safety, regulatory compliance and security at the field level, indirectly managing operations to achieve their safety-based goals.

  • Champion a culture of proactivity, accountability, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability through the consistent discipline of corporate policies, processes, and programs.

  • Support driver team members and departmental functions to achieve the regulatory requirements and initiatives established by the business Drive field execution and implementation of tactical and strategic initiatives

  • % of Time Essential Function

    • 35%: Provide subject matter guidance to Operations Managers, Driver Managers, Driver Team Members, and customers (when applicable).
    • 20%: Communicate operation's safety-based performance; conduct trend analysis for proactive improvement opportunities through the development and execution of operation-specific safety action plan.

    • 20%: Conduct primary root cause analysis (investigation) of collisions, injuries, security breaches, etc.; conduct regulatory and internal compliance audits.

    • 15%: Conduct non-routine safety training and awareness presentations.

    • 10%: Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to deliver exceptional service through positive engagement and patience.

  • Ability to work in a team environment to continuously improve results.

  • Able to promote a culture of trust and safety.

Position Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements.

  • 3+ years of direct field safety experience in managing employee/contractor Safety & Health, environmental and fleet safety management.

  • Intermediate spreadsheet, word processing, and other applications skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication, reading, organizational, presentation, interpersonal and team building skills, and reasoning, problem solving and analytical ability.

  • Advanced ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Knowledge and general understanding of all aspects of transportation logistics business.

Preferred Skills.

  • Previous OTR experience

  • CDL
  • Smith System Defensive Driving Certified
  • Percentage of travel approximately 35%

This position will be required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and, with or without reasonable accommodation is required:

  • to sit, stand, stoop, kneel and occasionally move up to 20 pounds,

  • manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard on a daily basis,

  • stamina to sit for extended periods of time, lift or carry printed materials, and

  • possess vision sufficient to read a monitor, printed text and hand written documents,

  • be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone.
