Job Summary

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking for a creator, builder, integrator, partner, and technical leader to join the team as a Developer, Baseball Informatics. As a Developer, Baseball Informatics you will be required to design, code, and maintain software solutions that allow Baseball Operations personnel to translate information into actionable insights used by decision-makers.


  1. Work with Baseball Operations stakeholders to gather requirements for new software solutions and features on existing projects.
  2. Help turn project requirements into designs and gather feedback on current and future UI/UX flows.
  3. Create user-facing solutions using the appropriate front-end frameworks and libraries.
  4. Build out and maintain necessary APIs for current and future solutions.
  5. Maintain and upgrade currently used frameworks and dependencies.
  6. Query data as well as create views, tables, and stored procedures.
  7. Stay on top of new technologies and frameworks that could enhance current and future software efforts.
  8. Stay on top of trends in baseball analytics, scouting, and player development to facilitate communication between development and baseball staff.
  9. Help new employees onboard onto Informatics systems.
  10. Serve as a resource for development help across smaller Informatics projects.
Position Requirements


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  2. 3+ years of development experience
  3. Experience with the feature development lifecycle
    1. Gathering requirements
    2. Implementing
    3. Testing and Deployment
    4. Support and Iteration
  4. Experience with Angular or other common web frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
  5. Experience developing and consuming REST APIs
  6. Experience with relational databases. Querying data, writing views, etc.


  1. UI/UX Design (Working with stakeholders, using common tools like Figma or Sketch)
  2. Experience designing complex Cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  3. Mobile Application Development (Native or Hybrid)
  4. Data Visualization (D3.js or similar)
  5. DevOps
  6. Project Management
