Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities & Fleet Maintenance Manager, provides daily maintenance of all BATA facilities and grounds.  This includes daily/weekly/monthly inspections and ensuring proper repair and maintenance to meet MDOT and MIOSHA compliance for overall building and grounds appearance and functionality.  Provide project management and oversight of related vendors. Will exercise fiscal responsibility for associated budgetary line items.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Possess high level time management skills with the ability to prioritize, schedule and complete competing needs of the organization.
  • Perform bi-monthly inspections of facilities and equipment, note deficiencies, provide recommendations, build action plans to schedule and perform repairs as needed.
  • Track and file all inspections, repairs, purchases and associated parts inventory.
  • Maintain organized file systems in hard copy and E-files.
  • Organize/Execute Action plans and work detail through Company software
  • Maintain power equipment including, warranty info and BATA tool storage shed.
  • Audit and maintain SDS program for Global Harmonization/ Right to Know, annually.
  • Perform annual Fire Extinguisher service/re-certification for all buildings and vehicles.
  • Maintain inventory and cleanliness of all BATA Shelters and Signs.
  • Management of Key control program for buildings and vehicles.
  • Perform Routine maintenance of bus wash, mechanical systems, and overhead doors.
  • Conduct training for Propane fueling and Bus Wash Operation.
  • Organize and maintain BATA surplus and records storage at both Diamond and Cass locations.
  • Perform maintenance such as patching, painting, sweeping, raking, weeding and general clean up and repairs. 
  • Maintain a clean and organized office, toolboxes, and work van.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-year related experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License Class B with, at minimum, passenger endorsement and air brakes within 30 days of hire or the first available training opportunity.
  • Demonstration of knowledge pertaining to basic construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and landscaping repair and maintenance
  • Exhibits safety consciousness
  • Must present neat well-groomed appearance in all situations
  • Must possess a mechanical aptitude.
  • Skill in the use of technology, including computers and a variety of related software, and the ability to master new technologies.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and carry them out independently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information orally and in writing. Tactfully and courteously interact with vendors, co-workers and customers, providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to solve problems, work effectively under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities calmly and positively.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and by telephone, read regular and small print, view and produce written and electronic documents and enter data on a computer keyboard with repetitive keystrokes.

Physical mobility – ability to walk extended distances and climb stairs, ladders, and ramps as necessary. Must be capable of bending, squatting, and lifting up to 100 pounds.

Agility/Movement – Ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate vehicles, tools, equipment, supplies, and other objects up to 100 pounds.

The typical work environment of this job varies where the noise level is moderate and sometimes loud, working under normal fluorescent lighting, regularly exposed to dust, fumes from exhaust, and chemicals associated with vehicle and building maintenance.
